During the school year the BHS Student Council is responsible for organizing such traditional events as Homecoming and Coronation of Personalities. In addition as promoters of school spirit, Student Coun- cil Members sponsor numerous projects which seek to involve more students in school activities. We are particularly proud of the response this year in the First Annual Student Art and Photography Contest. In order to include more students in the Coronation this year Student Council increased the number of honorees from 20 to 40 students. 19 NATIONAL i_ mono s xir77 || Na tional Hon or Society cKJuom ii kk U. l eague h. fry M. Several students attended the All-District Choir try-outs on Octo- ber 11. Those preceeding to the Regional try-outs were Dawn Kubala and Tracy Petkovsky. On March 15, ten members participated in U.I.L. Solo and Ensem- ble contest. Those receiving first division ratings were Laura Chism, Tina Goble, Rhonda Fike, and Dawn Kubala, on a Class I Ensemble. Others, were Brian Miller and Rikki Bradshaw with Class III Solos and Dawn Kubala with a Class II. The Choir had several money making projects including selling candles, and candy, bake sales, and a car wash. All proceeds went to a trip to the Six Flags Music Festival at Astroworld, on March 17-19, where the choir competed against choirs from all over the South- west. The mixed and the Womanβs Chorus both received an Excel- lent rating of a II. The final contest that the choir participated in was at U.I.L. on April 24. They received another Excellent rating of a II. 38 UIL LITERARY CONTESTANTS Regional β Back Row: Bonnie Longwell β Feature Writing, Hugh Woodard β Science, Gail Maxwell β Shorthand, Front Row: Patricia Best β Newswriting (1st), Poetry Interpretation, Editorial and Ready Writing, Sherri Blair β Feature Writing (3rd).
