Drama The Drama class offers opportunities for learning a variety of acting techniques, set designing and building, lighting control, use of stage make-up, costume designing, and even directing. Drama students have opportunities to concen- trate on a particular skill or to develop ability in several of these fields. The first play of the year, a suspense drama called Night of the Black Toad was presented to the public and the stu- dent body in early December. For Christmas, a play called Be-Decking the Halls , a teenage comedy, was pre- sented in a program which also included Christmas music by the choir. The Cop and the Anthem was BHS's entry in the UIL One-Act play contest. For his performance, Russell Bevil was chosen for the All-Star Cast, Bonnie Longwell and Lorene Coble were cho- sen for Honorable Mention. 75 U.l Typing (l-R) — Karen Odiorne (Reg Qual), Rd( hel Zinser Editorial: (l-R) — Polly Allen (4th Dist), Best Headline Writing (L-R) — Doris Hyman. The Bulldogs experienced many ups and downs. The win over a strong Elgin team, a great game with state-ranked Kerrville, a tremendous last-second win over Hays were all high points of the season. There were the disap- pointing losses to Manor, and Llano and the tie with arch rival Mar- ble Falls, but all ended on a good note with a strong win over Pflu- gerville. Co Get 'em Bulldogs! After District, and a couple of weeks of hard practice, I went to Regionals in both, and placed seventh in the discus. This is the first year I went to Regionals in two events. Lajean Lewis (Senior) Carla Goodwin — Regional Qualifier I have participated in track for 4 years. I feel that I have benefited greatly from this experience. The requirements of hard work, self-discipline, physi- cal activity and a sense of accomplishment have helpeci me develop into a better person. I have won District in the 440 for 3 years, setting and breaking the school record. I was part of the mile relay which won second in District for 3 years also. I have also participated in Field events such as high jump and triple jump during high school. Carla Goodwin (Senior) Kay Young — Regional and State Qualifier When you start to do something important, your attitude needs to be on one of its highest levels. When I clear the bar at a track meet, it gives me a strong feeling of accomplishment. Kay Young (Sophomore) Diane Murchison — Regional and State Qualifier I am very excited about going to state. I have quali- fied for regional three years, but this will be my first year to qualify for state. It takes a lot of hard work, and that means jumping in any weather to get to state. I got sick the day after district and was unable to attend regionals. My trip to Brenham my Sophomore year was very enjoyable. I plan to continue track in college except I plan to throw the hammer and javelin. Bob Shipley (Senior) Dirk Field — Regional and State Qualifier I've been on the Varsity Track Team for 4 years, during which time I have broken the school record with a throw of 163'10 , won district 2 times, and have gone to regional 3 years, and was a regional champ. This year I went to state in the discus. In Brenham, I placed 6th with a throw of 148 feet. Track has been exciting, and I enjoyed participat- ing in it. Dirk Field (Senior) Michael Marzean — Regional Qualifier Being a Regional Qualifier in the long jump was a great experience for me. I really didn't expect to place at all. Brenham was a fine place to stay. The one bad thing was that I blew it in Regional. Over- all I had a blast! Michael Marzean (Senior) Jeff Collins — Regional Qualifier I've been in track 3 years, and qualified for regional this year in the high jump. The trip to Brenham was a lot of fun.
