Several years ago the Highlandettes were a pep Tbquad. About five years ago we began calling ourselves a drill team because we did motions in the stands. We were just beginning to get recognition throughout our district when an HEW ruling set up new standards which looked as if the Highlandettes would be wiped out. NO WAY! ! When thirty determined girls showed up at a school board meeting to have their voice heard it was quite a sight and we won! The school purchased our uniforms and hired a choreographer, Mrs. Gamble, who was great! We really felt lucky to find someone like her on such short notice. For the first time ever, rile Highlandettes performed - dance routines at pep rallies, football and basketball games. We thank the band for their patience and understanding during these times.
