FALL FRESHMEN BAND HIGH LA NDETTES CHEERLEADERS FOOTBALL ORGANIZATIONS HA R VEST FESTI VA L 3 8 10 14 16 18 32 46 1977 BULLDOG VOLUME 20 WINTER SOPHOMORES BASKETBALL CORONATION JUNIORS BURNET HIGH SCHOOL BURNET TEXAS 78611 Each season serves a purpose in the cycle of life. Just as the world goes through its cycle of seasons to give promises of continuing life in nature, so we change in our years here at B.H.S. to give the promise of continuing growth, con- tinuing hope for mankind. Fall brings in the excited but somewhat frightened Fresh- men, who flit around the halls much as the wind blows the fallen leaves. They are new faces to add color to the school. Winter casts its cold blanket over the Sophomores. No longer new and frightened, they have not yet found a secure place here at B.H.S. They are dormant, waiting to step forward, and claim a place in the sun. It is during Winter that the Juniors come into their own as vibrant, energetic and responsible sources of school activity. They must plan and produce the Harvest Festival, the basketball conces- sion, and the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Much work is expended as the juniors come ever closer to the wonderful Senior year. Spring, of course, is the time of new life and new growth. The Seniors have come full cycle in that they have matured into responsible young people with their eyes on the future. The years of growth in B.H.S. have served them well as they move confidently out to a different world where they will begin yet another cycle. The Seniors are our bouquet of varied and beautiful flowers for the world! 3 WHO’S IN CHARGE? Superintendent - Robert Wilkin Staff - B. Fawcett, M. Williams, and M. PEOPLE WITH A PURPOSE Education is truly everybody’s business and it is wonderful to see how local problems in education can be solved when all work together. I hope the 1976-77 school year was good to our students. They are entitled to the best. Our aim is toward an educational program which will give every student the opportunity for maximum development. I pledge my efforts and the efforts of our faculty to help all of you in this purpose. My hope is that in the future as we all look back on this fine annual every student will be able to say that he accepted the challenge of the time and was rewarded in just proportion to the effort he expended to reach his goals. £. C. Vandeventer, Principal Mr. Gamble Counselor Mrs. Burkett - Counselor Mrs. Scruggs - Secretary FACULTY 77 OUR TEACHERS • OUR FRIENDS Marie Herbert Chris Houy 6 5 6 The students of Burnet High School would like to thank the faculty for a productive enjoyable year. We realize and appreciate the extra effort given by our teachers in various school functions. School is much more than the service of an education: It is also a place where we find comfort in friends and pleasure in activities. This envi- ronment could not be created without helpful teachers who give their time to make Burnet High School an excep- tional school. SEITEmtES Jeff Bird LENDING A HELPING HAND 9 10 1. Several years ago the Highlandettes were a pep Tbquad. About five years ago we began calling ourselves a drill team because we did motions in the stands. We were just beginning to get recognition throughout our district when an HEW ruling set up new standards which looked as if the Highlandettes would be wiped out. NO WAY! ! When thirty determined girls showed up at a school board meeting to have their voice heard it was quite a sight and we won! The school purchased our uniforms and hired a choreographer, Mrs. Gamble, who was great! We really felt lucky to find someone like her on such short notice. For the first time ever, rile Highlandettes performed - dance routines at pep rallies, football and basketball games. We thank the band for their patience and understanding during these times.
