ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.’ JOHN F. KENNEDY May 22, 1917 - November 22, 1963 American Heritage Promotes Democracy The words of Lincoln, Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Franklin D. Roosevelt ring across our land and echo through the valleys. These leaders plus thousands of men in battle gave us our heritage to reflect on. Theirs was the drive of free men establishing liberty for mankind. The Liberty Bell shall forever herald the truth to the world--we are the land of the free. Such is our heritage--to live as free men in this great land of ours, free to follow the doc- trines of our hearts in upholding our constitution. The legacy of these men carried with it a vast responsibility. Based on our doctrine, based on the freedom and cherished liberty of'men, we the youth of Burnet High School accept the challenge of our forefathers and will forever endeavor to continually promote democracy. Ours shall be a constant quest for truth for as Henri Amiel stated, “Truth is the secret of eloquence and of virtue, the basis of moral authority; it is the highest summit of art and life.
