Text from Pages 1 - 200 of the 1977 volume:

TRY TO REMEMBER That no one wept except the willow. Try to remember when life was so tender That dreams were kept beside your pillow. Try to remember when life was so tender That love was an ember about to billow. Try to remember and if you remember, Then follow. Try to remember the kind of September When life was slow and oh, so mellow. Try to remember the kind of September When grass was green and grain was yellow. Try to remember the kind of September When you were a tender and callow fellow. Try to remember and if you remember, Then follow. Deep in December it's nice to reme mber Merlin 1977 Burlington Township High School Burlington Township New Jersey Deep in December it's nice to reme mber Without a hurt the heart is hollow. Deep in December it's nice to reme mber The fire of September that made us mellow. Deep in December our hearts should remember And follow. Tom Jones from THE FANTA STICKS Try to remember when life was Although you know the snow will so tender follow. Dedication Actress, Musician, Student, Class- mate, Friend. Peggy Dorward She clowned and we felt laughter. She sang and we heard beauty. She studied and we were inspired to higher goals. She worked and played beside us and we knew friendship. She loved life and we found new values in our own. Against all odds she persevered and we witnessed courage. She left us and we know loss. In Appreciation THOMAS O. HOPKINS Teacher September 1939 - June 1947 Administrative July 1947 - Principal July 1951 Superintendent August 1951 - August 1977 On behalf of the students and staff of the Burlington Township Schools, the Class of 1977 salutes Thomas O. Hopkins as he retires from his position as Superintendent of Schools. During his thirty-eight years of ser- vice to this community as teacher, principal, and superintendent, the school system has grown from a small elementary district into a comprehensive, modern facility providing for the needs of Burling- ton Township students from kinder- garten through high school. The development of our schools and the success of our programs are due in no small measure to his dedication to all the students and to his commitment to quality edu- cation. In recognition of his leadership and his contributions, the Class of 1977 is honored to bestow upon him membership in our class and to have him join us as loyal alumni of Burlington Township High School. Mr. Thomas Hopkins The stimulating challenges which the Class of 1977 and its eleven pre- decessors have afforded me will generate myriads of memories in the future. Best wishes, Fellow Graduates. 1977 — B.T.H.S. Thomas O. Hopkins Su pe rin tend ent 3 tember % 4 H «otfier 50; 9 to ra n Class History FRESHMEN Just think—4 more years! ! Learning how to build good floats. Freshmen Football Team went 8-0. SOPHOMORES The teachers were in search of us during our Stokes trip. The car wash was a wet experience We won the overall spirit for the year. JUNIORS Selling candy to save money for the Prom. Turning circles around our rings. Memories of winning the Egg War. SENIORS Hopes of getting the Spirit Stick back. Taking our final S. A. T. s. Finally using our Open Lunch privilege. Saving our Memories. Senior Officers And Advisors (L-R) Mrs. DiMaria- adivsor, K. Sandusky- Secretary, C. Rowland- Vice President; D. Dalfonso- President, S. Bassett- Treasurer, Mr. Frantz- advisor The Class of 1977 started the year off with a bang. This year's float was our best effort and we really had fun building it. Our trip to Tamiment was an experience. Thursday night after many long hours of skiing, skating, or just plain messing around, most of the Seniors sat in the hall until 2:00 a.m. The advisor sent us to our rooms reluctantly in hopes that we would have a good night's sleep . The last day in the Poconos was hectic. The majority of the class rushed all around the lodge and tried to do everything that they missed the day before. The one thing our class is looking forward to is GRADUATION ! For the last four years we have been anticipating going to college, starting our steady jobs, or getting married. The Graduating class would like to thank Mrs. DiMaria and Mr. Frantz for helping us throughout our years in High School and a special wish of Good Luck should go to the Class of 1978. 19 Karen Abrams Patricia Alcott Dawn Abele D. We failed. It was only the beginning of a long and hard climb. We all thought that our float was colorful and cute. The judges didn't. They told us later it was too small. Our hall was another story. Little did we know that those balloons we quickly put up early in the morning only added to the annual poor opinion of the freshman hall. As freshmen, we knew we'd get them all next year! We were a terror in the pep-rallies in our second year. We won the most spirited class for that Weren't we something? Once again everyone else's float was better than ours. Our authentic Disneyland costumes, we thought would help us to win. Our hall that year was perfect. We still don't know why we lost that one. By the time we finally figured out the rules of the Spirit Week competition, it was too late. Our planning had begun for another year! Sophomore Year: 50 Junior Year: Once again, it was time for Spirit Week, Our float, that year, was built with a lot of confidence and a little work. We did try hard, though, and our thoughts were big. The Junior Class Presents hall was done in completely in team spirit, but we missed winning again. By the time the pep-rallies came along, we all decided that things didn't come to us easily. We refused to cheer at the rallies because we were denied the poplularity poll in the yearbook. We got burnt once again. We all knew that we had one more chance to try! Senior Year: Well, here we are again, and ready to beat the underclassmen. Our float in 1976 was the best we had ever done, and did we ever work on it! We thought we had figured out the mistake we had made by working on the float and preparing for the halls at the same house. This year, we split them up and it lead to a beautiful hall and a superb float. However, our hall was disqualified, and our float just didn't win! But we did win the Spirit Week pep-rally. Weren't our socks cute ? ! We leave this school knowing what the agony of defeat really is! ! ! 51 Candid's Of Unpredictable Seniors! 52 53 What’s Happening . . . 54 At Township High? Hello Madam... Potter C. Morris T. Gray The Burlington Township Varsity Team set the standard for outstanding High School football in the Freedom Division and in South Jersey. The Falcons ended their season with a record of 10-0. The no loss record speaks for itself. Township foreshadowed what their season would be like at their opening game against Palmyra. The Falcons of Bur- lington Township blitzed the opponent by a score of 21-0. Many believed that the team, consisting of many juniors, would lose to some of the experienced teams. This proved to be false as Township continued to be victorious through- out the season. On November 6, Burlington Township regained possession of the prized Mayor's Cup by beating the City Blue Devils by a score of 13-10. From there, the Falcons went on to clinch the Freedom Division Title and took the South Jersey Group I Title by defeating Palmyra once again, this time by an overwhelming score of 33-6. Named to the Coaches All County First Team were Bryan Warrick, Clarence Morris, Cliff Clement and Russ Boatright. Chosen for the Burlington County Times First Team were Cliff Clement, Ken Rodd, Chris Roller, and Russ Boatright. The Trenton Times selected Clarence Morris as the Back of the Year and Don Masters as Coach of the Year. Honored as South Jersey Group I All-Stars were Bryan Warrick, Clarence Morris, Ken Rodd, Gerald Kee and Russ Boatright. C. Roller R. Arrington Seniors Hadden, Bozarth Freshman TOP ROW (L-R)-D. He was not much of a talker or a liar. Playing Soccer, helping people, being friends and mechanics Were his heart's desire.
