Text from Pages 1 - 160 of the 1976 volume:

I hope the day will be a lighter highway, for friends are found on ev'ry road. 4 i ,-Vv .• . • •- . i,t :- This year's Heirloom cover design is the Burlington City Bicentennial Symbol. This bicentennial logograph was the inspiration of architect William Wolfe. It commemorates two hundred years of our Nation and reminds us of the important role Burlington City played as the crossroads of this emerging nation. Burlington City High School would like to express its thank to Mr. Wolfe for allowing us to use his design as the 1976 Heirloom Theme. 2, TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION..............18 FACULTY ................20 SENIORS.......J. 40 UNDERCLASSMEN...........78 SPORTS . ACTlVlTB F..108 ADVER' 121 To RUTH DINSMORE From the Class of 1976 In any school organization, some people perform best in the forefront: meet- ing the public, chairing meetings and promoting activities. However, the back- bone of an organization is the people who work behind the scenes: originating the activities, making the arrangements, and attending to details. This year we are recognizing a woman who has worked exceptionally hard behind the scenes. As a class sponsor she has not only fulfilled her basic obligations but has gone beyond to provide guidance, encouragement, and friendship to the students of the class of 1976. As a home economics teacher, she has not only given her students training in cooking, sewing, and homemaking, but she has also directed them in many worthwhile and rewarding social activities, including preparation for the Interna- tional Dinners, providing holiday baked goods for various children's and old aged homes, and costumes for school plays. The Burlington City High School Class of 1976 has been fortunate to have a sponsor who so selflessly has given of her time and effort. Therefore, we are proud to dedicate the Bicentennial editon of the Heirloom to Mrs. Ruth Dins- more. 18 Burlington City High School Alma Mater Chorus: Lift her banner, raise it skyward. Flaunt the blue and white! Glorious, our far-flung color Purity and light! BURLINGTON BOARD OF EDUCATION BOARD MEMBERS: (left to right) Superintendent Robert Dotti, Board President Stella LaForsh, Fulvio Severi, John Queenan, Martin Levin, James Jefferson, Hobart Stecher, and William Page. 22 ADMINISTRATION You are graduating at the time that our nation is celebrating its two hundredth birthday. You, the Class of 1976, are our Bicentennial Class. Our country has made great progress since 1776. Although it has encountered many seemingly impossible problems; wars, foreign and domestic strife, economic troubles, environmental pollution, crime and urban blight, our nation has continued to move ahead. Many of our citizens, using education and hard work, helped to resolve, or mitigate, the complex problems which have tested us during these past 200 years. Trained minds and working hands are still assets that you can offer to help your country, and yourself, in the years ahead. For those graduates who are going directly into a career; remember that you have the responsibility of doing your best and taking pride in your work. For those who are going on with their education; remember that you have the responsi- bility of doing your best to develop your capabilities to their fullest potential. As the United States of America enters its third century, I am confident that your education has given you the foun- dation for living, working, learning and building in a democratic nation. My sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1976. Raymond A.
