WZ f Me Staff Presents with fire feet ffm! earned as through BHS Me 1953 Pafhhhder 0fZ6600'Zd To the seniors cf l953: Three years ago, the halls cf BHS became accustomed to the tread of the 550 feet of what is now the senior class. ln lune, these feet will leave BHS and niarch along together to the graduation platform for the last time. These feet have carried us through all our classes, and through all the fun we've had at BHS. They've scuffed the floors, wriggled with de- termination, and worn down the stairs. The same feet that carried us tirnidly through the door in September, l95U, will be carrying us out of that same door full of the assurance of the places we have made for ourselves here. As we leave BHS, the focal point of our activities for the past three years, our sure feet will again become timid as they enter the new doors of college and business. There will be moments when they will shake in their shoes, but they will become assured once more as we remember how we have learned to get along with one another here. To make our footsteps strozifg and true, to build a path for those who will follow after us: this is our goal. May the memories of our three years together be made vivid by what you read and see in this, your Pathfinder. Wherever our feet may carry us, we will always remember the three years that we marched along together ot BHS Paffwhde E Aw r 1 XR gf 'Q if geieizgixqgifi' gfvf, f 'Q .lg 3 4 ,,a .-oQ.'-jx Q ,. m - A o sl I . Flanlced by tradition, the Homecoming festivities got off to a fine start with the pep assembly and the parade through down- town. Early in the evening the cheer- leaders led our yells down by the river- front as the doghouse was burned to the ground in the annual bonfire. Led by the queen and attendants, BHS students made a snake-dance up to the stadium in time for the kick-off. During the half, Gina was crowned by Mary Lou Broeg, last year's queen. Escort- ing the royalty were Ray Crabtree, Dick Pauly, lohn Koelling and Dick Tiemeyer, CDC officers, After the game, the Homecoming Dance was held in the field house with music provided by the Stardusters. This home' coming will long live in our memories as one of the finest ever held at BHS. Q H Q, 1 ' Q o 00' ' if 55 S ...,,., ' 5 5 A i -Q L. 1 ffl, .,:-wr 1.5. ,,. x. ,4 ,- .uk 3 V954 ns . Serving as King and Queen tor the juniors were Roger Willson and loanne Wanelc. Both classes enjoyed an eve- ning of dancing and entertainment. As the student executive body of the school, zhe Student Council each year has a heavy responsi- bility. Under the direction of Dr. I-larry Kinqham, the council meets as often as necessary in order to take care of problems that students and teachers brina before them. One of their bla projects this year was the setting up of a Club Study Committee, which endeavored to look into the difficulties which arose in our club system. Elected by the student body, these members performed a commendable job in their Work. S I YQW I4 x 1 ,l i ,I r ,W I The A Capella Choir, under the direc- tion of Mr. Brandon Mehrle, is made up oi students who pass the test of outstand- ina vocal ability. Often heard in our special assemblies and in civic affairs of Burlington, they are well known for their fine musical proarams. They also partici- pate in the sprina Choral Concert which is presented each year at the Memorial Auditorium. Started about Christmas time, the boys' and girls' glee clubs sing mainly for tun. They meet twice a Week before school. Membership is on a purely voluntary basis, and is open to anyone who wishes to participate in the club, and who will give up his or her time to extra- curricular music. The glee clubs also pro- vide a portion of the music in the annual spring concert which is held each year in the Memorial Auditorium. This year the girls sang mostly classical music while the boys sang songs about girls. Under the direction ot lflr. Brandon Mehrle, these groups provide an oppcrtunity to sing for those who cahnot tit a class in music into their school schedule. THE BAND One of the outstanding organizations of the school is the BHS band under the direction of Mr. Maurice Wright. The season begins with the football games at which the band plays and marches. The pep band also enlivens our pep assemblies with their school spirit songs. No parade would be complete without the music of the band, the members of which proudly wore their new uniforms of purple and gray. After football season ends, the band starts again by appearing at all the basketball games. A pre- view of the band concert was given to the mem- bers of BHS the week before the annual band concert which was held March l2 in the Me- morial Auditorium. Soloist this year was Mr. Dale Kimpton of Macomb, Illinois. Their season ended with the trip to Davenport for the Music Festival. ZAR.
