V1 STOPOVER football l N For the first time since 1916, the rugged BHS Grayhounds have come through the gridiron season without a loss. The only mar on an otherwise unblemished record are two ties, one with the Washington Demons and the other with the Fighting Hawklets of lowa City. Otherwise the victorious Purple and Gray eleven came out on top in the seven other contests in one of the toughest schedules in years. Aver- aging 23.3 points per game while letting their opponents garner only 2.1 points, the 1944 Hounds were the Little Six Champions. With the highly-polished T formation, Burlington ground Qt- tumwa's vaunted team into the sod with a smashing homecoming victory, 26 to U. Eleven battling Cfrayhounds who played 44 out of 48 rninu es gladly gave the battered Bulldogs back the Doge house. Due to the skillful play of Dick Meyer, LB, Leo Miller, LT: Dick Herman, LG: Blair White, C: Don Klene, BG: Bob Henry, RT: Hank Miller, BE: Bob Will- iams, QB, Walter Cwadau, LH5 Steve Hoschek, RH, and Carl Bowen, FB, the Hounds showed offensive power in every game with long runs and passes featuring a blistering attack. All-State selections honored every first teamer with either team or honor- able selection ratings. Carl Bowen achieved a first team selection on the 1DPA team. Dick Meyer, tough wing- man, made both lDPA and Register third team.
