Twenty Class History HE author has no intentions of writing now a volume that will be immortal. If it does live, credit that to the makers of the history, not to the historian. Nor did they-the makers-commit their acts with the intent of making history. It all came about as the result of one hundred and forty-six seventh graders passing to the eighth grade, and choosing Burlington High School as their center of learning. The September day which started life anew for this group of girls and boys marked a milestone-a milestone because they must no longer be considered as mere children: a. milestone because they must begin to fight a few of their own battles. They went at their tasks eagerly and joyfully. During the first year most of us tfor I was one of those eager-eyed freshmenj were pretty loyal to our chosen fountain of knowledge. We were too dazed to understand all that was taking place, anyway. We went from one thing to another without knowing what the last was about. There were representatives to elect to the student council, class olilcers to choose, annual representatives to elect: and then there was a freshman party. As I remember, Mr. Hollingworth was the star of the party, with his curly red locks worn as near back- ward as possible, and his suit donned in like manner. Paul Morrow, our class president, ran him a close second. Sophomores-pretentious in style, according to Mr. Websterg so that characterized us in our sophomore year? There were one hundred and twenty-five of us now. New interests must claim our attention. There was a school paper for which we must do some work. Athletics were loaming large on our horizon. We excelled there, too, being the tirst sophomore class ever to win the cup which is given to the class achieving the highest number of points in athletics. Nor was it the least of our jobs to protect ourselves from the taunts of the upper classmen. With one hundred and fifteen boys and girls a bit more settled, another year was startedg a responsible year, for it must add greatly to our knowledge, assure the suc- cess of a junior-senior banquet, and otherwise aid us in establishing our reputation as a class. It was the longest year, because our last and supreme year could not come soon enough. Supreme year is scarcely a good name for this year. It seems, now we have arrived, that it has been too short and its close is ending too many things for us. Depression has characterized this year, and our minds have been intent upon what our future state will be. Even then, we must consider our achievements. Ours was the responsibility of reestablishing the Doi:-XVAH-J.xck, The manner in which we have done this, we leave you to judge. We have even made a monetary contribution to the one beauty spot of our school grounds. Again, we have been fore- most in athletics by helping to bring about inter-scholastic basketball for girls. In summarizing our achievements, I tind that we have won the class athletic cup twice: we have played an unusually large part in scholastic publications: eight members of our class have been initiated into the National Honor Society: the boys have been outstanding in athletic ability. This is a history of the Burlington High School class of 1933. The moving finger writes: and, having writ, Moves ong nor all your piety nor wit Shall lure it back, to cancel half a line: Nnr all your tears wash out a word of it. II..x Hxixosi-:1.L.
