H. S. was organized in October, 1928, with the following officers: joseph Gant, presidentg Paul linrke, vice-president, liula Henry Love, secretaryg and Edwin NValker, treasurer. This council was composed uf each home-room p1'csident and vice-president. The oflicers of the orgzniizution were chosen fron1 the membership of the council. The council spent a great part of its first year in discussing plans for permanent organization and completing a constitution which was submitted to the Student Body for its ratification in thc fall of 19.29. This constitution provided that each home-room president was to be a member of the council and that the Senior Class should choose tive additional representatives, the Junior Class fourg the Sophomore Class twog and the Freshman Class one. At an early meeting of the Student Body, the constitution was amended so that the president of each of the four classes became members of the coun- cil: The president of the council was Thomas XVhitley, elected by the Student Bodyg and tlie.Qtlji'6rfo,EiEers were chosen by the council. ' 'Giitszgifiiitlne'ciljjectives of the Council for the term, 1929-1930, has been to work to- r,'f 4 ' - - . . . ward tliefi' eveloliment of a -better school spirit. A bull-dog was adopted for the School - ' f J ttf,--A - . lVfH5CQV2ll'ld '5Persevere for the motto. A contest was held for the purpose ot selecting a school song. Songs were submitted by students and members of the faculty. After much thought the song written by Professor M. Z. Rhodes was chosen as the School Song. In the interest of school spirit this organization sponsored a contest for the purpose of selecting a girl from the Student Body to be Basketball Sponsor, The sponsor was elected and crowned in a very impressive ceremony at the first game of thc season. In the last of Gctobcr tive boys were sent to the Student Congress which was held at Asheville. The council held candy sales and a picture show to make money for their expenses. The council also has charge of chartering all clubs which were organized in con- nection with the school, and reserves the right to revoke any club charter, upon failure on the part of the club to meet its objectives and to function properly. The supervising of these school clubs is done by a critic committee which was created by the council. Due to a suggestion from the Student Council, each class in High School was al- lowed to have a party in the school gymnasium some time during the year. These parties proved to be very enjoyable and beneficial. A Student Handbook which the council has been working on will he ready for dis- tribution in 1930. 59 ,,,,,, ,, , U0 r 1 N I 61 xwm mx-1' lllllllj ullmcr ll4YI1'Iill0L'S llu' litlc QucL-11 nf Baskcthf AIARKZARICI' Hmuxxn lfu.vk4'llrull .X'ffur.rur liy In-r clulighlful numm-1's, gn-acl humur, mul clmrming pcrsu Sch-ml, .Xll xlurmg ilu- scason Shu has slum-11 IlL'l'SL'lf wwrll15 of thu I1-nm: lu hu NIIHIAI mg QIIEIIIIICS :mcl lllIt'C1I4'IllS guucl nzxluru. 1.2 nalulx Xlu un! lnllmfl 1ll fm HIIIHIILQIUII High DRGANP ZATIDNS I 1 L THC Dl'1I!lltIfl'l' Jzur Nr, II, G.
