A D SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS DR. HERMAN J. DUNSEITH To THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1964: Congratulations and best wishes to each of you, as you leave our portals and pursue your interests in the challenging world of today! Whether you continue your education beyond the secondary level, accept a position in business, or enter the armed services, it is my sincere wish that you will be happy and successful in your chosen career. While you were in high school, we tried to offer you wise counsel in a friendly manner. Our services will always be available to you. Do return to visit us so that we may share your suc- cesses with you. As you leave your Alma Mater, may your fondest dreams be realized! MARY L. BILLINGS Director of Guidance M | N This has been a year each of you will remem- ber the rest of your lives: the year you graduated from Burlington High School; the year that witnessed the assassination of the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy; a year occasioned with joy and sorrow. Each student who has attended, is attending, or will attend Burlington High School leaves something of himself, as he participates in the various program activities within and outside the school. Each has something to give, and the giving of oneself is important. All of us need others; all of us are indebted to others; all of us are served by others. We cannot learn without active effort, nor can we develop without partici- pating. It is well to remember that we cannot save life — we can only use it. Time cannot be stretched — we can only stretch ourselves. It is our willingness, our attitude, our gra- ciousness, our strength of character, our capacity and productivity that will mold and build for today and tomorrow the school spirit and tradi- tion that will bring justifiable pride to all in future years. As a graduate in the class of 1964 and as you reflect upon your years at Burlington High School in future years, may you recall many joyous moments and view with pride your accomplishments. HERMAN J. DUNSEITH Superintendent of Schools DIRECTOR OF GUIDENCE MRS. MARY L. BILLINGS

i HKespectful Jribte John Hitzgerald Kennedy In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility; I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it, and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

leh A Ll The Class of 1964 has a tremendous task to undertake. You are only a small tributary entering the mainstream of all graduates for this year. However, you must do your part to accept significant leadership in the pattern of the accelerating social changes going on about us. These changes have been moving over the past several years and reached a tragic climax in the recent assassination of the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy. This act of violence points very clearly toward the need for a deeper understanding by all citi- zens of the large issues that are involved in the leadership requirements which this nation must adopt. Through education we must eradicate all intolerance, bigotry, and hate. We shall have to make very many positive advances to combat those whose thinking leads them either to the far left or the far right. You, therefore, both individually and collec- tively, must accept this challenge to assist in solving to some degree these problems, which are thrust upon you. The dedication with which you approach the acceptance of this challenge will reflect on how well you have learned the lessons presented to you at Burlington High School. The entire Faculty joins me in wishing you great success in all your future endeavors. JAMES M. HORTON Principal ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MR. THOMAS A. MOHAN I} @ IN PRINCIPAL MR. JAMES M. HORTON
