Class History A new and seemingly glorious world opened to the Freshmen of Burlington High School on September 3, 1956. At first we were overcome with our exalted position as “Freshmen” but we soon be- came aware of our unimportance. Never- theless, we discovered that we were en- titled to many new privileges. We held our first class meeting and elected the following class officers. Presi- dent, Roger Roach: Vice President, San- dra Wood: Secretary, Evelyn Parker: and Treasurer, Corrine Norden. In Novem- ber we put on our first dance which we felt was an overwhelming success. With a newly found confidence, we eagerly looked. forward to holding another dance in May. In spite of double sessions, locker com- binations, new teachers, and new regula- tions, we lasted through the year. We proudly received our certificates at our Commencement Exercises in June and readied ourselves for the big jump into the tenth grade. In September we returned as Sopho- mores feeling slightly superior and much more confident with one year behind us. Our class officers were President, Edward Callahan: Vice President, Rosemary Cal- lahan: Secretary, Catherine Couture: and Treasurer, Donald McIntire. We put-.our brains and talents together and founded the School Newspaper, “Hi-Lites”. Some of us became members of the National Honor Society and many went out for sports. We completed our Sophomore year with happy prospects of being Juniors the. following year. Plunging enthusiastically into our Jun- ior year we determined to take full ad- vantage of being upper-classmen. We chose Harvey Ames as our President, Catherine Couture for Vice President, Rosemarie Rettman for Secretary and re-elected Don- ald McIntire as Treasurer. Much to our joy, our long awaited Rings arrived just before Christmas. In a few short months we turned our attention to planning the climatic event of Junior Year. After what seemed like endless hours of planning, decorating and chang- ing our minds, our Junior Prom, which we had happily anticipated for so long, fin- ally became a reality. This was a most significant year for all of us, filled with activity, study and fun. In September of ‘59’ we returned, Sen- iors at last ... and the rest of the story is this book.
