MacDonald. As a member of the Burlington High School faculty for five years, Mr. MacDonald has taught History, English and Latin. We all agree it has been fun to know him even though he has been a constant target for our newest pranks. Now as we leave, we want to say hail (little) Caesar! To you, the graduates of the Class of 1960, sincerest congratulations for a job well done. As you take leave of Burlington High School, I would entreat you to pursue lifes challenges with the same seriousness of pur- pose as you did the problems confronted by you during your high school days. Such per- severance will certainly contribute to a hap- py and successful life. If at any time you find I can be of service to you, do not hesitate to contact me. Jerome J. Lynch Superintendent of Schools To the Class of 1960: We of the Faculty of the Burlington Jun- ior-Senior High School wish you success in any ventures that you may undertake. You have now reached a turning point in your lives. Some of you have plans for further education. Others will now enter the fields of business and will settle into patterns which will determine your future. However you decide to go at this point, all of you are still preparing to act as the citizens of to- morrow. The lessons which you have learned should have developed your attitudes, skills and habits to a fairly high degree in order for you to perform whatever tasks you set for your goals. The changes in technology and in our way of life which have come about in the few years since you have been students present a very startling challenge to all. We are on the threshold of a great exploration which will rival in history the great changes of the past with which you are familiar. Per- haps some of the members of the Class of 1960 will be active in this exploratory pe- riod. Good luck to you all. James M. Horton, Principal Class History A new and seemingly glorious world opened to the Freshmen of Burlington High School on September 3, 1956. At first we were overcome with our exalted position as “Freshmen” but we soon be- came aware of our unimportance. Never- theless, we discovered that we were en- titled to many new privileges. We held our first class meeting and elected the following class officers. Presi- dent, Roger Roach: Vice President, San- dra Wood: Secretary, Evelyn Parker: and Treasurer, Corrine Norden. In Novem- ber we put on our first dance which we felt was an overwhelming success. With a newly found confidence, we eagerly looked. forward to holding another dance in May. In spite of double sessions, locker com- binations, new teachers, and new regula- tions, we lasted through the year. We proudly received our certificates at our Commencement Exercises in June and readied ourselves for the big jump into the tenth grade. In September we returned as Sopho- mores feeling slightly superior and much more confident with one year behind us. Our class officers were President, Edward Callahan: Vice President, Rosemary Cal- lahan: Secretary, Catherine Couture: and Treasurer, Donald McIntire. We put-.our brains and talents together and founded the School Newspaper, “Hi-Lites”. Some of us became members of the National Honor Society and many went out for sports. We completed our Sophomore year with happy prospects of being Juniors the. following year. Plunging enthusiastically into our Jun- ior year we determined to take full ad- vantage of being upper-classmen. We chose Harvey Ames as our President, Catherine Couture for Vice President, Rosemarie Rettman for Secretary and re-elected Don- ald McIntire as Treasurer. Much to our joy, our long awaited Rings arrived just before Christmas. In a few short months we turned our attention to planning the climatic event of Junior Year. After what seemed like endless hours of planning, decorating and chang- ing our minds, our Junior Prom, which we had happily anticipated for so long, fin- ally became a reality. This was a most significant year for all of us, filled with activity, study and fun. In September of ‘59’ we returned, Sen- iors at last ... and the rest of the story is this book. June 10, 1980. Her ex- cellency, Marie Pazola, the governor of Mass., today cut the ribbon opening the Merrimack Valley Exposition in Burlington in Simonds Park. Assisting the governor was newly elected mayor Richard Brown, Representative Roger Cooper, now head of the Commission on Pub- lic Sanitation (who says he will make a clean sweep of things), and Robert Murray, the As- sistant to the Assistant to the Assistant to the head of the Traffic Commission on the Con- trol of Flying objects. Also present at the ceremonies were other dignitaries; the Super- intendent of the local dog pound, Donald Mc- Intire (he has the nose for the job), the Keeper of the Greens, Tommy Lynch (he was always a gay blade), Chief of Police, Leon Osborne, who has numerous contacts in the underworld and the friendly man with the inviting smile, our town grave digger, Donald Boyd (he digs people the most). Of the many delightful exhibits within this exposition the first we would like to mention is the Flower Show sponsored by Pansie Brown and Petunia Ramsdell, our local florists. Jane Enos won the first prize with her clinging vine and second prize was awarded to Mr. Jerry Paige who was showing off his 20 foot rubber plant (it was known for its bounce). This event was judged by Kathy Cain whose hobby is rais- ing dandelions and Buttercup Butters (a fan- cier of flowery phrases). After the Flower Show we visited the Pa- vilion of the exotic dance. Starring in the William Webber Follies was Larry Yarnell, toe dancing to the tune of ‘Tip Tce Through the Tulips’’. Ruth McKeown, Anita Russo, Pat Marr, Irene Blanchet, Jean Hawley, and Geraldine Martin, Burlington’s superflous Rockettes with end men Wilkie and Melendy who have their own interpretation of ‘’Fan- tasia.’’ Siamese Dancer Loretta Malatesta who received rave notices in Playboy was just get- ting into the swing of things. Backstage in her dressing room we met Miss Talula Blank- head known to her intimate friends as Dupie Norton who had just c ompleted a tour of cen- tral Africa. We forgot to mention that the guides were Burlington residents. Captain of guides Helen Hughes introduced us to her staff which in- cluded guide to the Flower Show, Lightning LaFaive, Guide to the Pavilion, Hop-a-long Howard, Guide to the peering Show, Bulldozer Parker, Guide to the Great Scientific exhibit, Charger Carlin. We next move on to the Scientific discovery of the age. It is a blessing for all those people who can‘t brush their teeth after every meal. It is ‘‘Eze-Squeze,’’ food in a tube. Now peo- ple can eat and brush their teeth at the same time thus saving time and avoiding confusion. This discovery is accredited to Dr. Molecule Morrison and Dr. Benjamin Franklin Sullivan (both graduates of the Sears and Roebuck ‘Do-it-Yourself Medical Course.’’) A few brave souls have gathered around to test their prod- uct. Gail Phalen, Barbara Carnes, and Richard Griffin all commented that this product was Class Prophecy just the thing for dieting (since it made you lose your appetite). We proceeded to the Fashion Show which had just begun. There we saw Monsieur Ed- ward Callahan, the world renowned fashion designer. As we approached the curtain went up and George Arkalis enthusiastically de- scribed the featured outfits. Bermuda shorts were modeled by Hairy Legs Harvey Ames; clothes for the tall girl were stunningly dis- played by Karen Fay while the petit sizes were shown by Evelyn Heigham; Kathy Couture strutted proudly across the stage in the sailor suit that was fashioned especially for her. As we continued we met ’’Mischief’’ Motta, “’Money’’ McHugh, ‘“Madman’’ McGrath and “PFrisly’’ Ferarri, the famous firm of lawyers who actec as legal consultants for the expo- sition. But they were not the only famous firm there. We also saw those proud architects Roebuck, Roebuck, Ryan and Rettman (their buildings follow the style of the leaning tower of Pisa). We stopped by at the Art Exhibit in which many kinds of art were represented. The first of these ‘works of art’’ was a Sculpture by Puttyfingers Gavoni called the Dance of the Pretzel. Modernistic paintings by Crazy Cronin and Nothing New Newcombe proved very moving to the crowds (moving them away). Messy Zverblis who finger paints was a painting in herself (she gets very involved in her work). Last but not least, the art of literature was represented by Dime Store Novelist Sue Boyer and Off-Beat Poet John Duggan. | In a remote spot we found Go-go Gavin, Crash Card, Speed-O Coleman and Blastoff Hoskins, members of the Space Patrol, mob- bed by throngs of admiring females. This armed services exhibit was displaying the flashy uniforms and explaining the duties of this soon-to-be famous patrol. However, their mission was a failure. No willful applicant could get near the desk to sign up. Reinforce- ments came under the command of WAC Ser- geant Lynne ‘’Spike’’ Gregory who was soon shouting orders to disperse the dizzy females. Under her command were Crusher Callahan, Biseps Bannon and Judo Jackson members of the trouble shooting squad. Movies taken in Florida of a water ballet in new Sens-o-rama vision were being shown. Throughcut this colorful extravaganza view- ers saw several starletts who came from this town. Among these were Splasher Spinetti with her special swan dive, Lazy Leap Lecaroz, Dog Paddle Durant, Nymph Norden and Clemintine Wocd who performed together. This adventure into real life movies gave the audience the impression that they were at pool side by spraying them with a fine mist as they watched. We completed our tour watch- ing Slippery Skidmore walk the tight rope. She ended with a splash. This has been Zelda Talkalot Smith bring- ing you a running description. The camera action has been the work of Flashbulbs Beale, my able assistant, and her crazy lens. So-—— until later, this is Talkalot signing off. Sandra Smith Roger Cooper Seniors At School When we think back to our Junior High years, What wonderful fun! What terrible fears! Our trials were many, tribulations too Do you think now it was worth going through? When we were Freshmen, we reached our goal, To Senior High dances we then paid toll. Just at the beginning of our High School span We were much in need of a helpful hand. In our Sophomore year, we settled down, Studying hard; no more fooling around. Many thanks to our parents and teachers too, Who helped us see our second year through. Then we were Juniors, we seemed in the clear, We had a good start; but we didn’t stop here. This year we were busy with many many things, Always looking ahead; receiving class rings. Now here we are, we have come:a long way But our longed for Senior Year is slipping away, The show, the play and trip were such fun, A whole new world opened—the fun’‘s just begun. Graduation day is here, we all pretend we’re glad, But way down deep inside, our hearts are very sad. Proud are our parents on this eventful day, Without them we certainly could not have passed this way. Now we look into the future to see what it unfolds Good luck and happiness for all is what we hope it holds. Many things can happen of that we are aware, Please Dear Lord—give us your precious care. Although the season this year was not too successful much valuable experience was gained by most of the boys most of whom will play next year, so next season’s team is sure to do better. With all the experienced potential left, Mr. Roache and his staff can look forward with great expectation for the future teams of BHS. The departing Seniors would like to wish the boys all the success possible. This year’s team was comprised entirely of underclassmen, mainly Juniors. So Mr. Garibotto can look forward to a great future in this sport.
