Biword e 8 As we, the class. of 1958 leave Burlington High School, we are filled with the memory of many wonderful friendships and experiences. Many of these experiences we have in- corporated into our, yearbook so that we may look back upon them in future years. Knowledge is accumulative. What we have learned here is just a beginning. We learn something new every day of our lives, whether it eomes from books, observation, . or actual experience. We, the class: of 1958, truly believe in our motto — “For- ward to Success.”

meme, $ F € essage from the cincipal Many new developments have occurred in the twelve years during which the class of 1958 has been in school. Probably the most spectacular of these developments have been the satellites which have been put into orbit about our planet. For several months, we in the United States have heard comments from varied sources that in order to compete with foreign powers we would have to concentrate our education in the fields of mathematics and science. It is necessary, however, for us to proceed into this new age with caution. The people of the United States have developed leaders in other fields, also, through the years. We must not neglect these areas while we concentrate on one. Our future depends on development of capable persons to become leaders in government, art, and business as well as in science and mathematics. No one subject field is all important. Through the development of our curriculum, we have attempted to place all items in their proper perspective. We attempt to cover subject matter for the development of culture as well as for the development of the practical. Our aims are to instill in the pupils the habits, attitudes, skills and ideas which will aid them in becoming well rounded citizens of the future. We know that only a small percentage of our people are equipped mentally and socially to become pure scientists. Through our counseling and testing, we try to locate and identify those who have these capabilities in order to guide them into fields suitable for their talents. The remainder are therefore guided into other phases of possible employment. Some find that high school terminates their formal education and they go directly into the business world. Others will continue in further education and will become nurses, technicians, engineers, and teachers. Whichever of these is your choice, the faculty of the Burlington High School wishes you great success. JAMES M. HORTON Principal
