S Dr Benlamin V. P. Verdile Ianuary, 1981 to Present Somehow the word school has come to mean a place, a structure in which learning occurs. In reality, that is the least meaning of the word. School to me has always meant peo- ple, students, faculty, staff, ad- ministrators and parents all involved in the tremendously complicated pro- cess of specific knowledge, and in sharing the wisdom that makes civilization advance and democracy flourish. As we celebrate this twenty-fifth year, the many people who have shared in the process of education at the Burlington County Vocational and Technical Schools are joined with me to form the many links of a powerful chain. From the first superintendent, john K. Ossi, from the first day twenty-five years ago that classes were held to this very moment the dedication to providing students with the trade and technical skills necessary to succeed in work and in life, has never wavered. I am honored to be serving as your superintendent during this special time, and to be able to recognize the twenty-fifth an- niversary graduating class. While we are looking back with great pride, our dreams however are firmly planted in the future, in the graduating class of 1987, and in the graduating classes to come. Individual and special, we nevertheless are link- ed in that great chain of shared ex- periences. In the most specific and best way, it gives me great pride to say we went to school together. Tribute to . . . 'Busy Hands Are IOH K. oss HaPPX, W Hands. Mr. Iohn K. Ossi, the founder of B.C.V.T.S. came to our school system in Iune of 1963 with fifteen years experience. Through his hard efforts and hard work we progressed from make-shift buildings to two beautiful campuses. As a man he felt very strongly about the value of vocational education and as an educator he felt busy hands are happy hands. For eighteen years we were lead by Mr. Ossi himselfp for twenty- five years C1 963- presentj we have been lead by his philosophy: If you make a stu- dent feel good about himself, it's amazing what he can accomplish.

Happy Birthday BCVTS! You are more than a building, more than a class, more than a county agency. You are people. Twenty-five years of teachers, administrators, custodians, parents, and most importantly, students of all ages. You harbor a sense of history, a sense of pride, and a sense of purpose. While society has changed, moved, demanded, advanced, recessed, and challenged, you have steadfastly maintained a goal of providing a quality vocational education to anyone who wants it. You are a feeling, a commitment, a statement of Burlington County's love for its children and hope for its future. You are a composite of the thousands of persons who have touched your existence by learning, teaching, building, managing, and most of all caring. The next 25 years will bring many more thousands to reconfirm their belief in the value of work, to prepare themselves for their place in our great society, and to better their own skills and fortunes. You have done your job well, BCVTS, and your future pormises to be a reflection of your past. Don E.
