Mrs. Beverly Hancock Advisor STUDENT LEADERSHIP CLUB Back in 1981 the need for a forum for discussions between students and administrators crystalized into the development of the Student Liaison Organization. The original group was composed of Dr. Benjamin Verdile, Superintendent, Mrs. Beverly Hancock and Mr. Edward Miller, counselors, and the elected officers of the Student Council and class officers. Issues of mutual concern were aired and discussed. Solutions were sought. Over the years, the school's principals became more involved and additional student officers were added. Some major issues dealt with by this group included: development of a smoking policy, review of a school dress code, and ways of dealing with use and abuse of drugs and alcohol. Leadership issues were also dealt with. As Student Council began to take a more active role in dealing with administrators about student concerns, the focus of our organization was changed. Currently we are the Leadership Club. The emphasis is on teaching leadership skills and aiding student officers to apply these skills in their organinzations and in dealing with major concerns impacting on the school community. In addition to Class Officers and Student Council Officers, we have added the Presidents of VICA and FBLA. Additional members can also be identified through our Vo-Tag Leadership referral process.
