BASKETBALL For the first time in the history of our sehool a Bobeat team captured first plaee rn the dr trret elass -X basketbfrll tournament Although our team did not show up so well in pre tournanrent pln they upset the dope and eompletelv donrmrted the play at the 'lwrn Falls tournament Coaeh Brown had six lettermen 'rom last Rear s squad that was runner up rn the distrret and one new lettermcrn from Folrrado in the person of Don Walters These lctternren were Qathre Glower Bailey Parish Dawn and Brown Along, with these boys he had a number of Juniors who pl wed on last year s fine ophomore team We did not finish very high rn the pre tournament standings haxrng won fve and dropped four aearnst class A teams The Oalelev Hornets were our first victims in the tournament and we disposed mf them by a seore of lb to l That night fofrch Brown sent hrs eharges against the Filer Wildcats and affarn we came out on top this time 43 to V3 On Friday nrffht the Bobcats met one of the stronge t teams in the tournament when thev ela hed with the host team the Twin Falls Bruins After one of the rrrcst exe ting battles ever plaved on the Twin Falls court our hows eame out with a Za to Z0 ead The next morn ng, our bovs met their onlv defeat of the tournament when thev fell before the onslaught of the strong Buhl Indians The score was 28 to 15 rooters for the class A eh rfnponshrp This was the best game of the tournament nd the best performance turned in ox the Bobeats the whole season Our boys earned an early lead and were ahead 15 to 4 at the close of the first period In the seeond quarter however the Indians had things their own wav and the half ended with the Bobcats out in fr ant 17 to 14 After the the rest per rod Coach Browns basket ball stars ran up a comfortable lead and won '36 to 20 A heart breaking finish was spelled to the basket ball season when our boys lost the district title and the right to enter the state tournament to Paul elass B eham prons The Bobca s played way below the form they demonstrated rn the tournament and lost a close deers on 25 to 24 The eonsrstenex with which Coach Brown produces championship teams only goes to prove that he is one of the best coaches in Idaho and wc hope he continues to coach Burlev teams to championships Ietters were presented to the followrng basketball players Seniors Captain Philip Glover Dean Barley, Andy Sathre Dale Parish and Farl Lyons Juniors Don Walters Willard Marnord Grrahanr Daven Garth Brown Keith Hutchings and llston Fremstad Besides the varsity team Brown turned out a sophomore team that lost only one sophomore garne during the season 111.4 lwsntw thru 1 I ul- I 1 I IA. .ly 1 D.
