CVona Dell Westl Class History This year's graduating class consists of the wise aswell as the unintel- ligent. We don't mean this to bea bad or a good inflection on the school. For goodness knows, that giggling Celeste Neff, tall Ann Decker, and married Billie fMabej0rr have attended the Burleson School all their lives. The next Einsteins to enter the Burleson School were Beatrice Summers, Harold Smallwood, and Thomas Nuckols. They entered here dur- ing the third grade. Beatrice migrated here from Everman while Thomas came here from Fort Worth. Harold moved here from Grand Prairie. Daisy May Neal seemed to get a desire to explore when she entered Burleson from Grapevine when she was in the sixth grade. Bill Stephenson, who came here as a seventh grader, was the next to occupy a Burleson School desk., He moved here from William James Ir. High School in Fort Worth. During the eighth grade the present senior class expanded quite abund- antly. Fred Browning, Bob Green, June Lewis, Nancy Morelock, and Joe Riley entered. Fred was from Houston, and Bob, June, Nancy, and Joe were from Bethesda. The fourteenth member of the senior class was Helen Hajek, Wh0 Came here in the ninth grade. She came to Burleson from Rosemont Junior High School in Fort Worth. Somehow or another Vona Dell West was fortunate enough to skip a grade between her ninth and twelfth grades. Although she entered a year after Helen in the ninth grade she is now classified as a senior. Vona Dell is from the W. C. Stripling Jr. High School in Fort Worth. The last but not least members to enter the senior class were Beverly Mayfield and Kirbie Kimbrow. Beverlyris from the Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth and Kirbie is from the Courtney High School in Mari- etta, Oklahoma. '. A Glimpse lute The Future After having been away from my old hometown for the past ten years I came to visit my family. While exploring the big city of Burleson fpopula- tion 50,000J I seemed to be always meeting my old classmates. First, I met Bob and Fred. They told me all about their work on the farm. I have been told that they are partners on the biggest peanut farm in Texas. As Iwas going into the Little Shamrock Hotel I saw Ann and Joe Riley. They were in an awful rush to catch a train to Florida. According to the newspaper stories Joe is the best baseball player since Babe Ruth. Ann has done much to help him reach the top. Next I saw my old friend Daisy May. She is the interior decorator for TheJohnson Construction Company of Dallas. I went in to see how the post office has changed since my high school days and there was Helen. She is the busiest model in town. After I left the postoffice I met Beatrice. She took me to see the dress shop she has just opened. I must say that it is one of the most beautiful stores I have ever seen. While I was in the shop I met Billie and Beverly. They were shopping for new Easter outfits. They are both very efficient housewives. When I left .Bee's Dress Shop it was near noontime. I went into the City Cafe and the first person I saw was Thomas Nuckols. He is with a law firm in Austin. He came to town to investigate a client. After lunch I went to the school. There I saw Nancy Morelock. She is the first grade teacher now. She says that she has lots of fun teaching. Ihad just enough time to see the new beauty shop on 5th Avenue. When I entered the door I saw Vona having her hair set by June Lewis. Vona is a pretty little housewife while June owns the prettiest beauty shop I've seen this side of New York City. When I left the shop I met Bill and Harold who had come to meet their wives at the beauty parlor. They are both hog ranchers. While waiting for a taxi I saw Celeste who told me that she has been teaching dramatics for the past five years. When the taxi came I was surprised to find that the driver was Kirbie Kimbrow. He owns Kirbie K. Kimbrow's Kab Kompany. Ring, ting, ring. Oooooooooooh fYawnj, I must have fallen asleep. Could all of that have been a dream? llllllllkbllllil Qmaafw .k.L. , ., . This is her fourth and last year and will be missed by everyone. BILLIE MABE has shown great ability as a guard this year. At the beginning of this season she changed from forward to guard. Junior- enior Banquet The Junior Class entertained the Senior Class with a Lavender and Old Lace Banquet on March 8, 1952. It was colorfully decorated with purple and white streamers with dainty little nosegays. The table was decorated with lovely bouquets of flowers and tiny bas- kets filled with candy mints. The lovely meal prepared by the cafeteria helped to make it one of the happiest occasions of the year. Miss Wilson, a past graduate of Burleson High School was our guest speaker. The sophomore girls, under the direction of Mrs. Jabie Effinger, efficiently served the tables and enhanced the scene by wearing lavender skirts, white blouses, dainty white aprons, and caps. The guest list included everyone connected with the school personnel and ad- ministration ofthe school affairs and many special guests. There are twenty eight members in our club. At the beginning of the year we didn't want the F.F.A. boys to be more important than us by having a sweetheart, so we chose Bob Green as the F.H.A. Beau of 1951 and 1952. We are also very proud of the roses we bought and set out by the side of the homemaking department. The agriculture boys built a sidewalk for us and at this time we want to thank everyone for their hard work. Our club has made money this year by renting films and presenting them to the elementary and high school. In April we plan to send representatives to the F.H.A. State Convention at Dallas. Our representatives, Mrs. Effinger our sponsor, Irene johnson, presi- dent, and another girl, chosen by the high school, will spend the three days at the Adolphus Hotel. A notable improvement around the Vocational Agriculture Building includes concrete walks, making flower beds for Paul's Scarlet Roses, irises and other flowers. All this was accomplished by the boys and at this writing the roses are starting to bloom. Thanks to a program of practical landscaping that carries with it such restful beauty. The F. F. A. Club completed the payment of S685.00 of tractor equipment, secured a new pickup, and the school has added almost 31,100 in shop equipment. Each boy has a supervised farming program, ranging from the planting of tomato seeds in hot beds and cold frames to several acres of cotton, corn, castor beans, and extensive livestock holdings. The boys to date have entered the Green Hand Future Farmer Quiz contest and placed second at state in Huntsville. x The area contest in livestock, dairy cattle and poultry will be held April 5th and all three divisions will be entered by boys from this chapter. Other than their normal classroom routine, field trips are rather frequent and deal with a multitude of activity such as defouning, vaccinating, surveying, building, etc. Shop activity and projects are encouraged and are especially emphasised along with the student's needs, his family needs and the making of the farm into a more convenient and appealing place on which to live. The Seniors of 51-52 hope that the publication of this paper will be con- tinued. Uamera Club SPONSORS Mr. J. M. Tarlton Miss Minnie Belle Booth The club considers this to have been a successful year. Its activities have included taking pictures of all athletic events and school programs, most of which you will see in this annual. The members of the club have learned much from the experience of taking and processing their own pictures. Now that the darkroom is so equipped that we can handle almost any photo- graphic problem the club is looking forward to a profitable and interesting year in 1952-53. The Burleson High Svlmol llramatics Club The Burleson Dramatics Club is composed of members who are interested in acting in and producing plays. The members study acting and other phases of dramatics. This year the club produced several plays. Outstanding plays were the Christmas play and the one act play that won first at District and Area Contests. The name of this play was Fog on the Valley. The club also secured stage props that were badly needed. These props are two doors, a French window, a double Frenchdoor, and a fireplace. These props cost 3246.041 Miss Etta Ewing is sponsor of the club. She has our grateful appreciation for her untiring efforts in the club's behalf.
