F F A SWEETHEART Geraldlne T1dwell FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Vocat1onalAgrxcu1ture Department of Burleson F F A 1948 49 has 45 members enrolled Some ofthe projects are raxsmg reglstered Jersey hexfers beef calves crops poultry and hogs Our club has 1ts own Sw1ne Assoc1at1on Our Green Hand Lzuxz. team won f1rst place at the dxstrxct and f1rst 1n the area at Arlmgton They went to the state contest at Huntsvxlle where they placed th1rd One of our future projects IS to make a concessxon stand near the Bapt1st Church for sale of drmks at softball games J ,J 3 'QA' do .5 x . t I K ' A ' 4 I THE COMMERCIAL CLASS ROOM The Commercxal class IS enjoymg the1r new room 1n the basement of the gym The Dresent ed1t1on of The Elk 1S the major project of the year but we have had many other projects m1meograph1ng letters for the Clty typ1ng school letters etc Our bookkeep1ng class IS also 1n th1s room 1 THE SCHOOL LUNCH ROOM One ofthe most not1ceab1e xmprovements of the bulldlngs on the school grounds IS that of the lunchroom Wh1Ch was pamted rnsxde thxs last year It also has had two new fans mstalled curtams plate glass mxrrors and p1ctures hung Ours 1S one of the flnest lunchrooms IH thls sectxon of the Country and we are very proud of 1t. mf-.f-'Egg y, .om ,A 'Q WP' my L W- ' 'Qin-nil 'LA it f Qi f i 4m ' IUNIOR SENIOR BANQUET ln keeping with the tradition of .Tumors honoring the Seniors the Burleson School Juniors entertained the Seniors and other friends with an Irish Frolic Banquet on March 19 1949 The green and white streamers overhead, shamrocks, pipes, and caladium centerpieces on the white covered banquet tables, set off by the all white walls of the banquet hall, made a picturesque scene that will long live in the memory of the one hundred and eighteen people present To add charm and reality to the Irish theme, Miss Nancy Whitcombe, a native of Wales and a British Exchange Teacher of Cleburne, took everyone on a brief tour of the British Isles and on a day's Journey through London, England, viewing the most interesting sights of one of the oldest and most famous cities in the world. Then there was the bountiful and delicious food, served so attractively and in keeping with the banquet theme. To top off the occasion were the colorful evening gowns of the ladies and the flashy ties of the men, adding glamour and making the banquet a joyous occasion for all. CI.
