FOREWORD Mrs. Rita Condron, Kari Weeks, Faye Haywood, Nelda Lakey, Velma McCarter, Dayline Miller, Sherry Gunter, Lucy Nichols, Cynthia Byerly. Another year has come and gone leaving behind happy memories and sad moments for all of us at Burkeville School. For some of us, this year will hold a little more meaning because it will be our last year before going out on our own, and for others they can look forward to many more rewarding experi- ences as they complete their school years. Our hope is to have captured some of these rewarding mem- ories and events of this Bicentennial school year so that when you look through the pages of this annual many of your happy memories are recalled. We, the Annual Staff, would like to express our appreciation to our faculty, patrons, advertisers, and everyone who made it possible for the 1976 REMUDA to be published. IdOtna, 7 )lcG ia+XjU- au J 7 auunrodb 2 The 200th Anniversary Of The American Revolution ★ ★ ★ ★ 76 IN LOVING Mrs. Lela Spikes (1927-1975) Mrs. Annie Adams (1920-1976) TRUE MEASURE How long we live is not for us to say; We may have years ahead - or but a day. The length of life is not for our control, But length is not the measure of the soul - Not length, but width and depth define the span, By which the world takes measure of a man. It matters not how long before we sleep. But only how wide is our life - how deep. Helen Lowrie Marshall Mr. Gardner Howard (1927-1976) 4 MEMORY 1 Mary Clack Dwight Fowler (1958-1975) (1966-1976) TURN AGAIN TO LIFE If I should die and leave you here a while, Be not like others, sore undone, who keep Long vigil by the silent dust and weep For my sake turn again to life and trembling hand to do That which will comfort other souls than thine; Complete these dear unfinished tasks of mine, And I, perchance, may therein comfon you. Mary Lee Hall Tommy Fowler Jr. (1961-1975) D E D I C A T I O N We, the annual staff, are proud to dedicate our Bicenten- nial edition of the Remuda to Mrs. Lydia Bailey. Mrs. Bailey has completed thirty-seven years of teaching. She has taught in Beauregard Parish, Louisiana, and Liberty County. In Newton County she taught at Farrsville, and Bon Wier. She began her teaching career at Burkeville in 1955. She is a native of Newton County. In her spare time Mrs. Bailey enjoys fishing. Mrs. Bailey obtained her Bachelor's degree in 1945 from Texas Southern University. She received her Masters from Lamar University in 1971. It is our pleasure to have the opportunity to show our appreciation to Mrs. Bailey, whom, we feel has contributed her patience, devotion, and inspira- tion to all who know her. 6 REDISCOVER 9 ) AMERICA Hold To Your Dream ■1 jk jHC, j — J. | W% l4 1 COLORS: Red, White, and Blue FLOWER: Carnation SONG: Do You Know Where You're Going To?” Mr. Steve Bean, Mrs. Rita Condron, Miss Jackie Tanner, and Mrs. Elsie Cato. u X GLORIA DEAN ADAMS ROBERTA MAE ADAMS w' m - ’ £ I been had this, every since Saturday!
