THE BEARKAT MAIN BUILDING As another year draws to a close we hope there will be many mem- ories of Dear Old Burkeville High School.” One more year is gone and for some it will be the last. As you turn through the pages of this edition of the Bearkat, we hope there will be happy memories of the events, teachers, activities, and classmates of the past year. May the memories of the year be warm and sweet. We hope that the faces will always find a warm spot in your heart. As co-editors and business manager we hope the 1964 Bearkat will always be the most cherished possession of the past school year. B. Gasway who has this year completed thirty years of teaching in the Public Schools of Texas. Mrs. Gasway is a graduate of Burkeville High School where as a student her ambition was to become a teacher. She obtained the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education Degrees from Stephen F. Austin State College. In her present position as teacher of the First Grade, Mrs. Gasway has been the first teacher of every pupil now enrolled in Burkeville School who began his school days in Burkeville. She was the first teacher of the 1964 Seniors and has followed their school progress throughout their twelve years. Mrs. Gasway has welcomed service as a parent, teacher, and patron. She has served the Parent Teachers’ Association as president and chairman of various committees. She maintains membership in the Texas State Teachers' Association and was elected president of the Newton County unit this year. Her contributions have been numerous and significant. Mrs. Gasway has been a friend of teachers and pupils alike. Her faith and optimism have been inspiring and unfailing. For devoted, loyal, and efficient service to the students of Burkeville High School, the Annual Staff proudly dedicates this volume of THE BEARKAT to Mrs. W. B. Gasway.
