THE 1961 BEARKAT BURKEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL BURKEVILLE. TEXAS FOREWORD The 1961 edition of the 'Bearkat' represents the close of another chapter in the history of Burkeville High School. It is our sincere wish that as you read the 'Bearkat' you will relive the events of this year. We hope that you will find warm happy memories of classmates, teach- ers, activities, and events that were a part of school life at Burkeville High in 1960-1961. As you review the events of this year, your thoughts may be sober, tender, or turn to the humorous side of things. The familiar faces of friends and landmarks around the campus will have a sentimental value for you, we know. Whatever your mood, we hope you will enjoy reading this yearbook with utmost bliss. K. Shaddock. Mr. Shaddock has worked untiringly toward educational improvements. Since 1952 he has served as President of the School Board. Under his leadership school pol- icies have been determined and school curricula and educational opportunities have expanded. Mr. Shaddock has greatly influenced the building program which has brought the new buildings to our campus. He is an active supporter of Burkeville High School in both scholastic and athletic events. His warm congenial personality has made him a friend to all. and his untiring efforts and understanding ways will cause him to be long remembered by both students and faculty. When Time who steals our years away Shall steal our pleasures too. The mem'ry of the past will stay. And half our joys renew. There have been major accomplishments made during this year in many fields, but there are still more to be made. It is my sincere wish that our students will recognize the value of the training they receive in High School and take advantage of every opportunity to better equip themselves to help in the future accomplishments of their country in whatever field they may choose. Education neither begins nor ends in the class- education. Your responsibilities are great and your privileges are many - perform and use them wisely.
