R-'Qi W mvliks, 3215 HI, EVERYBODY! I'M STELLA STUDENT, A SENIOR IN BURKE HIGH, AND I'M THRILLED TO PIECES BECAUSE THE KIDS HAVE ASKED ME TO TELL YOU THE STORIES ABOUT THE PICTURES IN THE '56 BULLDOG. I'VE NEVER MADE THE HONOR ROLL, BUT I'M HAPPY TO SAY THE LIBRARY LIST AND I ARE STRANGERS TOO. fI'M NOT QUITE THE EGG-HEAD I LOOK TO BEJ. IKNOW MY GRANILAAR ISN'T TOO SHARP AND LIKE THE REST OF THE KIDS,I TALK IN "SLANGUAGE" A GOOD DEAL OF THE TIME, BUT THEY TOLD NIE THE PICTURES WERE PRETTY INFORMAL AND TO JUST BE MYSELF. I THINK '56 HAS BEEN A SWELL YEAR FOR B.H.S. THE GIRLS GLEE CLUB HAD NEW ROBES, WE HAD A NEW BUS AND A NEW DRIVER'S TRAINING CAR. IT WAS THE FIRST YEAR WE'VE HAD THAT COURSE AND THE KIDS REALLY GO FOR IT. NATIONAL ASSEIVIBLIES GAVE US SONIE PROGRAMS THAT WERE REAL GEORGE. HOPE WE CAN HAVE 'EM AGAIN NEXT YEAR. THE '55 BULLDOG WON AN ALL-STATE RATING AND OUR B.B. TEAM GOT HOT AND TOOK FIRST IN THE DIS- TRICT AND EVERY BODY WENT TO YANKTON FOR THE REGIONAL. WAS THAT A THIRILLI BUT PICTURES TELL THE STORY BETTER THAN WORDS AND WE'D BET- TER GET ON WII'H THE BOOK. BY-THE- WAY, MY BOY FRIEND, CLYDE CREW- 'iff CUT, HELPED ME WITH SONIE OF THIS. CLYDE'S NOT EXACTLY HANDSOME, BUT HE'S A REAL DOLL AND I'M , xx 1 W CRAZY ABOUT HIM. 5 if WW We! , Here lf the School Koa:-d THESE FOLKS A.REN'T JUST SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS TO US--THEY'RE PAR- ENTS OF KIDS WE KNOW--AND WE KNOW THEY LIKE KIDS AND GO ALL OUT TO GIVE US A GOOD SCHOOL. TO US THEY ARE DOC KELSO, ON THE LEFT, MARY ILER, HENRY CLAUSEN, BILL HINKEN QHE'S CHAIRMANJ, AND HERB BURYANEK. 3 C RST N HO TW' ABL? Misuse of sc: hoc Vandalism means the de- struction of property for the sheer joy of destroyw ing something. W h y do some people carve up desks with knives or marthe sur- face with pencilsg and these same people are the ones to scream about the poorcondition ofthe desks. This year the school district bought about 15 new desks to replace the mutilated desks. These new desks are now well de- corated Cif you can call it thatlwith scars, names, and just plain silly mark- ings. In a year or two they won't be any good to writecn either if students continue this vandalism- 1 v l The Howler llleetlf a headline The kids howl when their names appear, but they howl louder when they don't, so The Howler gives us all the news except the library list and the detentions.
