The Burke Bulldogs enjoyed a fairly successful season this year winning three games and losing three. The highlight of the season occurred when the Bulldogs were defeated 7-0 by the highly rated Tyndall team in a well played game at Tyndall. The Bulldogs wins included victories over Mission, Winner and Gregory. Larry Ticknor and Alvin Besmer, center and fullback respectively, were elected co-captains for the season's play. Prospects for the coming season are fair as eight lettermen will be returning for action. The team will be losing eight seniors from this year's squad due to graduation. Incompiling thisrecord, Burke met some of the roughest teams that they have ever played, such as: Hayti, Ravinia, Volga, Menno, Platte and Chamberlain in addition to the teams in the Rosebud Conference. The Bulldogs drew Gregory in the first round of the District Tournament and defeated them in a thriller, '76-72. Burke met Fairfax in the semi-finals and although the Bull- dogs led most of the game by a margin of Z to 10 points, the breaks came for Fairfax in the final seconds and they went ahead to win 58-50. The outlook for next year's basketball season is good with five returning letter winners. Forming the nucleus next year will be four juniors and one soph- omore. The five returning lettermen are: Don Frank, Gordon Davis, Louis Tolstedt, Bill Spence and Larry Wolf. Prospects for next year include D. Sieh, L. Keever, D. Kracht, L. C. Tolstedt, W. Horst, and P. Klug. Six senior boys ended their high school basketball in 1954. They are: D. Canon and B. Larimer, co-captainsg D. Simons, M. Bell, L. Ticknor and B. Hinken.
