At your left is Doc Kelso, mail carrier, who began his two year term last year. Next is Ted Greer, who runs Greer's Ice Cream Shop, popular hang out for stu- dents. The Bulldogs of '52 won one, tied one and lost five, but they still outscored their opponents 92 to 80. This was possible because half of the points were scored over Stuart, Nebr. Burke al- so surprised Chamberlain and Tyndall, two tearns that were undefeated. There are ll seniors on the tearn, but the pro- spects for next year are fairly bright because of returning lettermen and outstanding second- 32 stringers. The Burke Bulldogs had a good season with 'I wins and 9 losses for 1952-53. The record does not look too impressive, but the team met the roughest teams that this High School has ever played, such as: Platte, Chamberlain, Wagner, Ravinia, Pickstown, and Tripp, along with the teams in the Rosebud Conference. The Bulldogs drew Colome in the first round of the District Tournament and defeated them to the tune of 63-36. They then played the Gregory Gorillas, who drew one of the byes in the Tourney and defeated them 68-49. Burke met Fairfax in the finals and were defeated in a thrilling overtime game, 65-62. Burke led the gaxne by a margin of 7 to 9 points, but the breaks came for Fairfax and they cou1dn't be stopped. The outlook for next years basketball season is better than fair with 7 returning letter winners. Four Juniors form the nucleus with 3 Sophomores giving close competition. The 7 returning lettermen are: Larry Ticknor, Dick Simons, Bob Larimer, Gordon Davis, Don Frank, Bill Spence and Dick Canon. Three Senior boys ended their High School basketball in 1953. They are: Co-captain Deene Neilan, Co-captain Roger Stoddard, and Ray Martin. Deene Neilan, the big 6' Z' for- ward, is one of the best basketball players ever to play ball for Burke High School. He is a good offensive and defensive player and the finest teammate a player could have. Roger Stoddard, short but a fighter, is a swell teammate and a good defensive player. He is a good shot. Ray Martin has played basketball for Burke for 4 years and is a steady and consistent ball player. The second team had a better than fair season with record of 11 wins and 7 losses They ran into many tough 'B' teams. In the Second Team Tournament they drew Gregory and were defeated in a thrilling game 55-52. The team was made up of five Sophomores, five Freshmen, and one Junior.
