ln l94O, the freshman class entered Burke High School with an enrollment of 40
members. The following class officers were elected: president, Janice Painter, vice-
president, William Lubbersg secretary-treasurer, Jean Sharp, with Mr. Hartman as
After the first few weeks of school, the sophomores initiated the freshmen. The
nest of the year was spent in trying to gain recognition from the rest of the student

Ruth Burr, vice-president, William Doering, secretary, and Marilyn Schlaht, treasurer,
with Mr. Hebert as sponsor.
ln September l942 Marilyn Schlaht was elected president, Maurice Sohlaht as vice-
presidentg Jean Sharp as secretary, and Paula Prchal as treasurer with Miss Lorene
Yimmer and Mr. Cecil Todd as sponsors. During the year their class play Wspring Fevern
was given with Mrs. Doris Sharpe Bronaugh as director.
On May 4, the juniors gave the seniors a banquet which was carried out in the
theme 'An Old Fashioned Garden.N
This year the seniors had as their officers, August Steffen, presidentg Harold
Deering, vice-president, and Howard Kortmeyer, secretary-treasurer, and Mr. Cecil
Todd as sponsor. Through the excellent cooperation of all the members of the classg
their candidates, August Steffen and Ruth Walden, were elected carnival king and
queen. ln May the seniors gave their play NA Husband For Salen with Mrs. Doris
Sharpe Bronaugh as director.
They, having gained the recognition of the rest of the student-body will take
their place in the world to help speed the day of victory.
