BASKETBALL gh., f, I gig li x Canon, Steffen, Schlaht, Don Bentz, Harman, Dean Bentz, Doering Esterling, Kortmeyer, Leibel The Bulldogs completed a successful basketball season this year by winning nine games and losing six, placing fifth in the Rosebud Conference. Due to the good teamwork of the boys, the team was able to win second place in the district tournament. Burke will lose five lettermen: Steffen,Schlaht,Kortmeyer, Doering and Esterling due to graduation. They chalked up an undefeated season with five wins and one tie. Seven lettermen will be lost by graduation this spring. Smith, Kracht K. Smith, Pejsa, Dean Bentz, G. Smith The Ag. boys aided the war effort by carrying out the following activities: 1. Built a portable sheep dipping vat and dipped 2151 sheep. They also wormed 1500 and have taken in enough money to nearly pay for the dipper. 2. Collected about 6000 pounds of waste paper and donated 310.00 to the Hospital fund. 3. Helped carry out three War Training Food Production courses with a total attendance of forty farmers for the three schools. 4. Built 4 wagon boxes, l hay rack, 3 hog troughs, 4 mineral feeders, l large hog feeder, 25 mash hoppers, and 12 lockers for the basketball boys. 5. Carried out feeding trial with 20 pigs. Each boy took turns in caring for them. 6. Had the greatest percentage increase in sheep and wool and also in poultry of any chapter in the state. Won Sears Roebuck award of 346.42 for the increase in sheep and wool.
