parent ®ead|ers gaociation The Burgin Parent Teachers Association was established in 1916 with Mrs. Sam Crutcher as its first president. One of the first projects of the P. T. A. was to help set up the school cafeteria. The members brought their own utensils to school, cooked the meal, served it and washed the dishes. The P. T. A. still takes an active interest in the Cafeteria although they no longer are needed to prepare and serve the meals. This year the P. T. A. started a new Civil Defense project. Many members served on this com- mittee and worked long hours providing an adequate Civil Defense program for our school children. The annual Hallowe'en Carnival was held on Tuesday night, October 31, this year and the whole community turned out to help us celebrate. One of the objects of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers is to bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may co-operate intelligently in the training of the child. This is also the main object of the Burgin Parent Teachers Association. The executive board for 1961-1962 consisted of: President, Mrs. Guilford Waggener; Vice-President, Mrs. Fred Cox; Secretary, Mrs. James Teater; Treasurer, Miss Christine Proctor; School Superintendent, Mr. Patrick E. Napier.
