PRESENTED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF BURGIN HIGH SCHOOL BURGIN, KENTUCKY EDITOR-IN-CHIEF ASSISTANT EDITOR FRED MULLINS JOY H. SMITH Bedicattcm We, the class of 1962, dedicate our annual in memory of Phyllis Jean Freeman, a dear friend and classmate whose friendship, cheerfulness and loyalty will remain in our hearts forever. Dear Friends: Departing, as graduates of 1962, we wish to leave behind something to help us be remembered. We sincerely hope that our issue of ” The Bulldog” will be as cherished by you as it is by us. Classmates and happy occasions can be recalled by looking through its pages of memories. For us, our high school years are drawing to a close, only to open doors to the uncertain world outside. Time and varied occupations may draw us to all corners of the world but we hope that the loneliness for our friends may satisfied in these pages. To our classmates and sponsor who offered their time to produce this yearbook, we express our appreciation and thanks. We hope each of you enjoy The Bulldog of 1962. Sincerely, JVmtual .Staff EDITOR-IN-CHIEF . ASSISTANT EDITOR BUSINESS MANAGERS SPORTS EDITOR . . TREASURER .... SNAPSHOT EDITORS PROPHETS . TESTATORS HISTORIANS . . . Fred Mullins ... Joy H. Historg Four years seemed like such a long time when we ventured into our first high school class. Think- ing back it seems impossible that we have covered so much territory in such a short time. There have been pleasures and regrets, hopes and let-downs, joys and sorrows. Already we are beginning to realize that our happiest days are quickly running out. Sitting for a few moments to think, we may recall such things as-. The happy autumn in 1958 when we all came to school with pencils and paper, ready to start on this wonderful experience. We elected as President, Fred Mullins; Vice President, Bob Hager; Secre- tary, Jane White; Treasurer, Ronald Denny; Reporters, Pat Gwinn and Joy Hulette, and Student Council members, Fred Mullins, Bob Hager and Joy Hulette. Our Sponsor was Mr. Goebel Ferrell. As sophomores we had begun to settle down......a little. As class officers we chose; President, Mike Bowman, Vice President, Gerald De Nise; Secretary, Pat Gwinn; Treasurer, Joy Hulette, and Student Council member, Larry Yocum. Mrs. Cora Ann Lewis was our sponsor. Our junior year was a full and prosperous one. We sold candy and cokes at ball games, sold maga- zines, had a class play Papa Says No , and ordered our class rings, which seemed a turning point in our lives. This year officers were: President, Pat Gwinn; Vice President, Sue Hockensmith; Secretary, Joyce Caddell; Treasurer, Joy Hulette, and Student Council Members, Larry Yocum and Joy Hulette. Miss Margaret Gibson was our sponsor. We entered our senior year with seventeen members. We had both gained and lost some. Our senior year was full of such things as: selling Christmas cards, soliciting ads, Donkey Ball game. Jitney suppers, our senior trip and numerous others. Class officers were: President, Sue Hockensmith; Vice- President, Larry Yocum; Secretary, and Treasurer, Ira Hayslett, and Student Council Members - Fred Mullins and Joy Smith. Mrs. J. W. Langford was our sponsor. Five of our boys played football and nine played basketball. Our class had five girls who had been cheerleaders at least one of the four years. Graduation is not far away and the thought of leaving makes us sad; but we must make way for on-coming seniors. To our teachers and our School we offer our deepest gratitude for their great under- standing and inspiration. Joy Smith We, the Class of 1962, bid you farewell. One of the first projects of the P. T. A. was to help set up the school cafeteria. The members brought their own utensils to school, cooked the meal, served it and washed the dishes. The P. T. A. still takes an active interest in the Cafeteria although they no longer are needed to prepare and serve the meals. This year the P. T. A. started a new Civil Defense project. Many members served on this com- mittee and worked long hours providing an adequate Civil Defense program for our school children. The annual Hallowe'en Carnival was held on Tuesday night, October 31, this year and the whole community turned out to help us celebrate. One of the objects of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers is to bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may co-operate intelligently in the training of the child. This is also the main object of the Burgin Parent Teachers Association. The executive board for 1961-1962 consisted of: President, Mrs. Guilford Waggener; Vice-President, Mrs. Fred Cox; Secretary, Mrs. James Teater; Treasurer, Miss Christine Proctor; School Superintendent, Mr. Patrick E. Napier. j tudcnt Council The Student Council of Burgin High School for 1961-62 is made up of six members, chosen by their fellow students. The Council elected Fred Mullins as President and Joy Smith as Secretary. Under the encouraging leadership of our sponsor, Mr. Napier, we plan to have a homecoming dance, a Valentine dance and a spring dance. During the year we shall endeavor to promote the betterment of the school.
