LANGFORD Mrs. Langford, our experienced sponsor, has done much to make our senior year pleasant and one that we shall always remember. She has an admirable disposition which invokes the appreciation of her students. We are grateful to her for her guidance and help in all that we have tried todo. Without her we could not have made our annual. Her patience, kindness and devotion to our class is remarkable. She has ever encouraged us to work together in a Christian manner. 15 9 liato iy. While reminiscing through the past years, we, the 1957 graduating class of Burgin High School, recall the following events: After receiving our eighth grade diplomas, we were very excited to be entering high school. We were green freshmen at first, but we soon caught on to throwing erasers and chalk. Mr. Denzil Ramsey was our home room teacher. There were twenty-five in our class that year. Six new pupils to begin the high school career with us: Bob Krahulek, Ancelyn Phillips, Louis Vickers, Ronnie Lane, Melvin Horton, and Derama Richardson. The next year we were silly sophomores with Mr. Corless Wiley af our home room teacher. We lost eight pupils and we gained five: Peggy Fayne, Bonnie Aubrey, Veda Pemberton, Joyce Roney, and Harvey Harlow. In our Junior year we acted a little more grown up. Our class officers were: President, Sue Evelyn Hager; Vice-President, Joe Hamilt on; Secretary, Olivia Denny; Treasurer, Derama Richardson; Social Chairmen, Sue Byars and Bob Krahulek. Under the direction of our wonderful teacher, Mis Margaret Gibson, our play, “Gangway for Ghosts, was a big success. We worked hard to take the Seniors to the Ice Follies. There were sixteen of us in the Junior Class. We are now in our last year of high school. Our class elected Sue Hager as our President; Lucretia Chilton, Vice-President; Arnetta White, Secretary; Derama Richard- son, Treasurer; Patricia Luttrell and Gerald Davis, Social Chairmen. In November we gave our play, Spooks and Spasms. We worked hard on our annual with the guidance of our sponsor, Mrs. J. W. Langford. We were glad to welcome Joan Kevil and Arnetta White to our class this year. Patricia Luttrell, Janice Sims, Sue Hager, Lucretia Chilton, George Sexton, Gerald Davis, and Billy Waggener have been in Burgin School from the first grade through the twelfth. The highlights of our senior year were the Junior and Senior trip and our trip to Washington, D.C. We are very grateful and happy to receive our diplomas from Burgin High School. Sue Carole Byars Harvey Harlow, Jr. 16 wpfieci In the year nineteen hundred and seventy-three, when the annual Burgin High School Homecoming is in full swing, members of the Class of 1957 are assembled. They begin to give account of their activities in the twenty-si - years following graduation. This is what is revealed. Sue Evelyn Hager has been out of Teacher’s College for two years and has become Dean of Girls at B. H. S. George Sexton had just completed his training to be a State Patrolman when he saw a car speeding down the highway, which he chased for 200 miles. Guess who it was -- his former girl and we thought maybe fiancee, Jeannette Smithey. Kilroy beat you to the draw, huh, George? Patricia Luttrell, has also gone to Teacher's College, but she and Charles Sanders are now teaching their own children the ABC’s. The oldest is sixteen. Joe Hamilton really wanted to have an Army career. Well, he had it and is now trying to break Eisenhower’s record. Joe, is your next step the White House? Olivia Denny has taken “Singing Lessons as her career and is now singing for the Salvation Army. Johnny Short has always wanted to complete his course as an M.C. We're sure he will succeed, but who can wait around for Johnny’s degree in order to be Short-changed. Joan Kevil has planned a long time to become a registered nurse, but Rex has just about made her change her mind. Bob Krahulek has just completed his engineering course. Now he is the man who throws the switch at Eddyville Penitentiary. Was a college course necessary? Arnetta White has just graduated from Detective School and is employed with Jack Webb in “Dragnet. Harvey Harlow wants to be a husband, but he has not changed Sue Carole’s mind as yet. He’s still singing Trying. Lucretia Chilton has always said that she was going to college to be a teacher, but she has changed her mind. She and J. B. are married and now she is teaching him to do housework. Billy Waggener has had a course in engineering and is employed at Kentucky State Hospital running the elevator. Sue Carole wants to be a secretary, but Harvey is ready to settle down, so we think this secretary business is for the birds. Gerald Davis wants to be an electrician. He is saving the money he earns as Chilton’s delivery boy to pay his tuition. Derama Richardson will probably devote her four years of college to preparation for her teaching career. Kenneth Isaacs has a desire to be a farmer but we hear that he has changed his mind and taken over Mr. Denny's job as janitor at B.H.S. Janice Sims has taken over the task ofhousekeeping and caring for children. In her spare time she is dancing in the “Honky Tonk” at Burgin. This is all exciting to her husband -- Charles Bonta. And so, on and on go the lives of the Alumni. We wish for each of them good luck and happiness. Arnetta White Joan Kevil WMl We, the Class of nineteen hundred fifty-seven, leave this our last will and testament to be read on May 18, 1957: Joan Kevil wills her vim. vigor and vitality to Big Bertha. Kenneth Isaacs wills his ability to farm to Miss Bourne. George Earl Sexton leaves his ability to lose twenty pounds in one year to Miss Gibson. Arnetta White wills her ability to stay single all through high school to her sister, Anna. Sue Evelyn Hager wills her coon hunting knowledge to George Day because there won't be many coons at college. Bob Krahulek wills his ability to aggravate Miss Gibson to Betty Jane Sanders. Patricia Luttrell wills her ability to chew gum in Miss Gibson’s class without getting caught to Harold Dixon. Good Luck! Derama Richardson wills her ability to milk cows to Jeanette Smithey. Janice Sims wills her ability to say “I’ve been sheep hunting’’ and get by with it, to David McCrosky. Harvey Harlow, Jr. wills his black hair to Jeanene Knight. Sue Carole Byars wills her ability to sit by her “Steady in class to Vanda and Sporty. Billy Waggener wills his ability to play ball to Dick Krahulek. Lucretia Chilton wills her ability to be a tom-boy, ride horses, and her old tree house to Sylvia White. Olivia Denny wills her ability to be late to class to Jeanene Knight. Gerald Davis wills his ability to study history to Donald Sanders. John Short wills his ability to study to Donnie Montgomery. We, the seniors, leave you now.
