We used a western theme for our Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom, whichwe all enjoyed very much. As a result of several months of hard work and cooperative effort on the part of the members of the class, we were able to spend a glorious week-end in Washington, D. C. The class raised the necessary funds for this trip by having numerous bake sales, a rummage sale, a barbecue supper, and various other projects. This trip was the highlight of our junior year and a dream come true. Then came our senior year--our last year as a part of Burgaw High School. Elected as our officers were Hugh Highsmith, Joe Bryant Newkirk, Mary Emma Blanchard, Judy Futch, and Julia Mallard. Our Homecoming Queen was Nora Walton with Patsy Deal as her Maid- of-Honor and Alice Mozingo as Senior Representative. On October 31, our class was deeply saddened by the loss of one of our class members, Elna Kaye Best, who was killed in an automobile accident. Our senior representatives on the cheering squad were Mary Emma Blanchard, Patsy Deal, and Joanna Thomson. We are looking forward to the Junior -Senior, the senior play, and then the biggest event of all--graduation! And thus ends our four years at Burgaw High School. We had laid the foundation.
