Class History We Seniors entered high school only four years ago. We have been so busy and interested in our work that it is hard to believe that four years have passed. We were proud to be in high school as freshmen. Our class officers were Josette Futch, Annette Boryk, Phyllis Sherman, Dewey Padgett, and Thelma Saunders. Everyone enjoyed going to Raleigh that year, as the high-light of 1956- 1957. After the summer vacation, we began our sophomore year. Our class officers were Stacy Covil, Judy Leimone, Ellen Caryl Futch, Bill Taylor, and Herman Strickland. Our junior year was filled with many happy events. Mary Ruth Bowden represented our class on the basketball team. David McLendon, Stacy Covil, Dewey Padgett, Ervin Wells, Herman Strickland, Bill Taylor, Edward Mauney, and Richard Brown were on the boys' team. Herman Strickland was on the baseball team. Bill Taylor, Herman Strickland, David McLendon, David Wil- liams, and Graham Carter were on the football team. Cheer- leaders were Josette Futch, Judy Leimone, Phyllis Sherman, and Judy Giddens, Chief. Hawaii was the theme for the Junior- Senior banquet, and it was a great success. Ervin Wells, Dewey Padgett, Judy Leimone, Ellen Caryl Futch, and Martha Rowe were our officers. Then we were Seniors, enjoying our last and most important year together. The Beta Club members from our class were Bobbye Taylor, Martha Rowe, Merle Meadows, Judy McKoy, Pa- tricia Tatum, Thelma Saunders, Stacy Covil, Stuart Jones, Ellen Caryl Futch, Ervin Wells, Judy Leimone, and Phyllis Sherman. Charlotte Richardson reigned as Homecoming Queen with Judy Giddens, Judy Leimone, and Brenda Pearsall as her attendants. Receiving our class rings and the '60 Junior-Senior were im- portant events for us. Senior 'class officers were Stacy Covil, Thelma Saunders, Judy Giddens, Bill Taylor, and Annette Boryk. These four years have been short, but they are years which we shall remember and cherish all of our lives. We are grateful to you -- Burgaw High School -- for enabling us to have these happy years together. Thelma Saunders V9
