CLASS HISTORY Was it really four years ago that we were Freshmen? It is hard to believe that it has been four years since we entered the ninth grade. There were eighty-five members in our Freshman class. Ou-E class officers Were Bob Johnson, Pete Farrior, Judy Ruddell, and Virginia Williams. The trip that our Civics class made to Raleigh was one of the most outstandinj|events of the year. After a brief vacation we began our Sophomore year. When ered the Sophomore year, sixty was oii Mtal enrollment, ss officers in the tenth grade were Vir|{j$|ia Williams, anier, and Mary Hazel Moore. Carolyn Sodper and Mary ynick represented our class on th$ girls' basketball team. -A ty-three students returned for our Junior year, which was many happy events. PROPHECY OF THE CLASS OF ’58 The Time: 1968 The City: Washington Our job: Cops The story: Miss Mary Hazel Moore, one of the richest women in the United States, has called us in to search for her missing jewels. We believe them to be anywhere in the vicinity of the United States or Alaska. We are going to start by contacting some of her closest friends. Our search will take us all around the country. We shall begin right here in Washington, where she is presently staying. Then we intend to go to her home town, where quite a number of her friends are living. Since the President is a good friend of hers, we shall see him first. As we are talking to the President, who is Mr. John Leimone,his charming wife comes in. We discover she, the former Kathryn Woodcock, is also a friend of Miss Moore. We go on to a large hospital in Washington to see Dr. Gene Ballard, one of the world's greatest baby doctors. We meet his assistant, Miss Joyce Brinkley, who is working to complete the examination of one of his patients. We then talk to a scientist who is really coming up in the world. We find him, Professor EdwardFedoronko, giving a statement to the press: After a long and tedious struggle, I have finally sent up the United States' first successful around-the-world satellite. Before going on to Burgaw, we see Miss Moore's lawyer, Mr. Bob White Johnson. Discovering that he hasn't found out any information leading to the missing jewels, we decide to leave. Upon arriving in Burgaw, we visit Burgaw HighSchool. As we enter the door, we see Mr. Johnny Smith sitting in the office behind the desk. His name is on the door as principal. He tells us that Mr. Thompson, the well- loved principal before him,has now retired. While we are talking to him, Miss Julia Rivenbark comes in. She is now the secretary and commercial teacher of this school. As we leave the school, we see some one we recognize, Miss Sharon Harrell, now a famous Metropolitan Opera star, who with some friends are home on a visit. While in Burgaw, we see Mr. Whrens Williams who has become sole owner of the many lumber companies in the United States. We take a drive in the country and find that Pete Farrior and Mike Boryk have one of the leading trucking businesses in the world. We also have an opportunity to talk to their secretary, Miss Mildred Crews. We also have an opportunity to talk with another one of Miss Moore's friends, the former Miss Judy Wooten. She has married one of her hometown sweethearts and has opened a nursery for children in her home. Rocky Point has become one of the leading cities in North Carolina, and its main drug center is owned and run by Dr. Linwood Hewett, a noted pharmacist. One the other side of Burgaw, in Maple Hill,we visit Jimmy Powers, District Attorney, who has just broken up a ring of burglars working the state of North Carolina. We discover that two of Miss Moore's friends are now living in Raleigh, North Carolina. Mr. Tommy Karwoski and Mr. Tommy Hor sky have opened a dance studio and are now giving lessons on a new Elvis Presley Sambo. By the way, that dance step has overrulled the old-fashioned bop steps. In Durham, we visit Professor Andrew Katalinic, who teaches Biology at Duke University. While we are in Chapel Hill we decide to see the Reverend Barden Lanier, to get his opinion on the missing jewels, only to find himperforming a marriage ceremony of two of Miss Moore's old and dear friends. Their story is a simple one. Right after graduating from high school Sheila Lanier went to work for the News and Observer and worked her way up to star reporter. Morris Shad Herring went to Carolina, became an all-star player on the basketball team and later came back to coach at his Alma Mater. One of Sheila's jobs was to interview him, and their romance took spark again. Now we see them in front of the altar taking the marriage vows. 25
