Longfellow Dedication . . .Because her kindness, patience and understand- ing for us has been unlim- ited , . . . Because she has spared neither time nor effort in her attempt to make bet- ter citizens of us, . . . Because she will always live in our hearts as a wonderful example of un- selfishness and inspira- tion, And, finally, because she has been a great help and source of encouragement to us in our efforts to publish this, our school’s first annual, WE, the staff of the 1956 WAGRUB, do hereby dedicate this annual to our teacher, advisor and friend, MRS. Only four senior lettermen are graduating: John Durner, Barden Wells, Dan Sellers, and Bill Jonkheer. If next year's play- ers improve as they should, Burgaw will have a powerhouse for sure. The Burgaw baseball team made an average showing during the spring season of 1955, winning five games and losing five. Three members of the team graduated with the class of '55: Carlton Carr, pitcher; James Tokoly, outfielder; Larry Sasser, outfielder. Two members of the team are in the present graduating class: John Durner, pitcher, first baseman; Barden Wells, third base- man. The '56 season should be most successful for the Burgaw team because of the fine talent avail- able and the coaching which the boys will receive. Hoys’ Hasketball Zeam Co-captains Jimmy Hall Robert Leimone This year the Burgaw Basketball Team consists of sixteen boys, nine of whom play reg- ularly: Mike Boryk, John Durner, Pete Far - rior, Jimmy Hall, Morris Herring, Gurney Hood, Gene Lanier, Robert Leimone, and Warren Young. Remembering last year's losses through the season and then the surprise of winning the county tournament, the team wishes to have a successful ending in both phases this year. Spell Wagrub backward or forward and it still spells progress of the finest kind. It reveals the same spirit of initiative and enterprise that has marked the accomplishments of Burgaw citizens in the Finer Carolina Program. What makes it even more heartening is that this spirit is so much in evidence among Burgaw’s younger folks. So congratulations to all of you at Burgaw High on this FirstEdition of your Annual, The Wagrub. May your Annual and each of you meet with continued success in the years that lie ahead. The upper crust is just a bunch of crumbs stuck together by their own dough. _________________________ “Say It With Flowers” from WILL REHDER FLORIST Dial 9649 Wilmington North Carolina In Jacksonville It’s ADLERS For Values Compliments of KRAMER’S DEPT.
