PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE 1982 Well, Class of 1982, you made it! This has been a tough year, but a good one. Congratulations to you for a job well done. Burgard has been the better part of your lives these past four years. With the help of your families, friends and teachers, you have accomplished what you set out to do when you first entered this building as green Freshmen. As we approach the 51st Anniversary of the opening of Burgard vocational High School, it is with great joy that we celebrate your success. You are now ready to enter into the next phase of your lives. There are many appropriate things that I could speak of at this time. Things like leadership, character, citizenship, maturity, loyalty and so on. The faculty and I have tried our best to instill these qualities in you, and only you know to what extent we have succeeded. lt is now up to you to continue growing. I would like to say a few words about a very tangible aspect of your education. I believe that one of the greatest measures of success for you, as graduates of a fine vocational school, is the obtaining of a good job. Many of you are already working and many others will begin new and challenging jobs in the near future. In this day of high unemployment, you are indeed fortunate to have a specific trade. Burgard graduates have al- ways enjoyed a great deal of success in securing employment in their chosen field. A couple of basic facts to remember are these. You will spend an average of 10,000 eight-hour days working at your trade. Therefore, you must find SATISFACTION in your work or you will never be truly happy. Secondly, you will probably change jobs six times in your lifetime, hopefully for a better one each time. lt takes a lot of perseverance and maturity to succeed, and disappointments are a part of life which we must all face. So have the courage to accept the challenges that come your way. In speaking to employers over the years, I have been told over and over again that the single most important thing they look for in a worker is a good attitude. This means good work habits, cooperation with your employer and your fellow-workers, and honesty in your work. Your future is in your own hands now. Your education doesn't end in June. Throughout your lives you will have continual opportunities to enrich and improve yourselves. Take advantage of everything that this great country of ours has to offer. 10
