GR DU TE OF 1969 After four years of exposure to an educating experience that included a broad enviromental area with just and dedicated teachers, you are about to emerge into an adult society threatening to burst its seams from internal discontent. You have seen your country entangled in a war without prospects of a military victory yet one which has cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars. This war, illegal to some, unjust to some, has created extensive areas of dissension. Some say we are moving into an area of two distinct societies, black and white, separate and unequal, A new president, a new leader of all Americans became the captain of the ship the United States of American in January. His responsibilities become ours. His programs to right wrongs, by ridding our country of the insidious evils of segregation in schools, housing, job discrimination, unfair military draft practices, corruption in government and the Spoils System must have your support. I prophesy that within a relatively short time the election of our president by the outmoded system of presidential electors will be repealed, that the voting age will be lowered to eighteen and that the squalid badness found in the poverty stricken areas and ghettos will be attacked by the might of an outraged populace and with the aid and guidance of an enlightened and determined corps of governmental leaders, and the almighty, will be diminished and eventually destroyed. Perhaps then we will again move into the beckoning space age, brother with brother, black and white, northerner and southerner, American and Russian to a world federation of peace and tranquility. MR. ARCHIE ROUSSELLE Assistant Principal 1962-1969 The Burgard student is better equipped than ever to cope with the rapid changes of the Space Age. Perhaps in very few other educational institutions has it been necessary for student and faculty to adapt themselves to changes in curriculum and physical plant. Our graduates of 1969 have been offered an expanded curriculum and have capitalized in an enriched program. In the past four years we have added two New Math course, Physics, Spanish, Small Engine Repair and a Terminal Welding Course. In the Physical Structure of our Building we have added four new classrooms and an additional shop, In the summer of 1968 we conducted our first summer school for credit, allowing students to both enrich their background as well as receive credit for deficiencies in shop and drawing. The willingness of the Burgard Student to accept the challenge and enrich his backround has been rewarding to the student and because of this willingness greater numbers of Burgard Students are being accepted in advanced studies than in the past. 4
