CAREER S END Mr Harry Wright another veteran of OLD ELM and BURGARD retired Jan 1 1960 Mr Wright started his career as a Commercial and Llthographic Artist After his grad uatlon from the Albright Art School in 1923 he Joined the Buffalo School Department He taught in Elementary Schools for two years during which time he also served as di rector of Toymaking in the Summer and Evening courses for Elementary teachers Mr Wright became a member of the faculty of Old Elm where he formulated a course in Printing Art When Elm moved to Burgard he was one of the original faculty of the new school on Kensington Avenue Here he remained as an instructor of Printing Art until his resignation For many years Mr Wright coached the Burgard Tennis teams a sport in which he himself had excelled Best Wishes Harry for a long and happy life 1n your retirement Mr Alvin T Innes ers and students who knew him regret his leaving im and successful career Mr John Mutz since 1934 will complete his teaching career consin Station Good luck and happy retirement Mr Mutz Mr Lloyd H Tilley Burgard pays tribute to one OfltS instructors Lloyd Tilley who has given long and faith ful service. He left the teaching profession last June 1959. Mr. Tilley graduated from Technical High School. After attending Cornell for three years he completed his educa- tion at Buffalo Normal. In World War I Mr. Tilley served in the Coast Artillery in France holding the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. Tilley has been active in veterans organizations ever since. He is a past commander of Riverside Post ofthe American Legion Mr. Tilley taught in various schools for thirty nine yearsg as principal for three years at Port Jarvis, New Yorkg three years in the soldiers Rehabilitation Programg the remaining thirty-four years at Elm and Burgard. May you have many happy years ahead, Lloyd. 21 Harry B Wright Mr Alvin T Lines for 32 years a teacher at Burgard will retire this year Those teach Mr Lines began his teaching career at Old Elm in 1928 where he taught Airplane Con struction and Repair In 1940 he took a position with the State Education Department to set up courses for the training of war industries workers At the same time he was super visor of instruction at Burgard during the evening classes of the war training programs In 1942 he took a leave of absence to be ln charge of training at the Bell Aircraft Corp After the war Mr Lines returned to the day program at Burgard teaching Aviation Mechanics until 1950 In that year a new course called Boat Building and Marine Engine Repair was set up Mr Lines has been its sole instructor It s continued success is due to Burgard gives Mr Alvin Lines its sincere thanks on the completion ofa most valuable With the closing of school in June Mr John T Mutz welding instructor at Burgard Mr Mutz worked as a Welder in various industries in Buffalo and Milwaukee W1s During World War I Mr Mutz served as instructor of welding at Great Lakes Training Mr Mutz attended Buffalo Normal School Buffalo State Teachers College and the State College at Oswego He then became a teacher at Burgard
