To better understand what I mean by the above statement let us retrace the many steps taken by you in preparing to enter this school. This first step took place back in the eighth grade in elementary school where you were supposed to have made extensive study of the many trades offered in the Niagara Frontier. By studying with your guidance counselor, by conferring with your parents and persons working at different trades and then by visiting the actual work situations, you were made aware of the advantages and the disadvantages of those trades, the special abilities required, the opportunities for advancement, the working conditions and the possible renumerations. Then with the aid of your counselor you analyze yourself to find your particular abilities, your aptitudes, your interests and your general fitness for employment. Next you compare the trade requirements with your own attributes and from that comparison choose the trade that you wish to pursue. Since you are now attending Burgard you must have selected as your trade either Automobile Mechanics, Avia- tion Mechanics, Marine Mechanics or Printing. Following that, you then procured catalogues and brochures from each of the seven vocational high schools in Buffalo showing the trades taught and subjects re- quired for each course. From those materials you determined the schools or school that prepared pupils for the trade which you selected. You of course, chose Burgard. Subsequently, in the latter part of May you came to Burgard and asked permission to study your chosen trade. You were tested both orally and in writing, and you were counseled and advised by a member or members of the faculty. After weighing your potentialities, aptitudes and abilities it was agreed that you could profit by our instructions and preparations. A few days later you were advised by letter that you had been accepted. So let it be understood that you were never coerced, urged, forced or compelled to attend this school that you came on your own volition, asking permission to study the trade of your own choice while here. That is the reason I say and I repeat, You students in Buffalo Vocational Schools should be the most happy, most satisfied and consequently the most successful of all the secondary school pupils in this community. r ff Mr Mdrtln Donbert Aulonmhllz Deparlmfnf Chairman Mr Gregory Duclor A 1 zanon Deparrmenl Clzazrman Mr. Cyrus H.
