Joseph F Crotty Assistant Prlnclpul A Message to the Students of Burgard Your Yearbook theme has for a long time been sublect matter in my thinking and discus sion School Spirit is that ethereal will of the wisp that breathes lite into a student body nurtures it through its infancy as a school intensifies its solidarity durmg adultlnfe and be comes tradition to be mulled over and yearned for durmg those nostalgic times when grad uates gather Attendance at athletic contests where one s school is a participant mterested membership in intramural activities and a pardonable pride in your school s reputation for Sportsman Twelve hundred West Pomt Cadets may be heard rockmg the hers of a huge stadium with their concentrated cheering while across the field a few feeble sounds may be heard representative of the thousands of their opponent s supporters School Spirit' Read of the welcome home given a Losing Team by the student body of some colleges Read of the Student Councils which meet after school hours or on holidays to plan recreational programs decorate their gyms display appropriate seasonal ornamen tation or meet with other high school groups to discuss mutual problems and propose recom mendations for their general good All these are a mmute scattering of examples of an active student body lively, effer vescent and willing to pool their efforts so that their school will be a leader in all competi tive endeavors, a school known for its dignity and its contributions to a well rounded teen age society Your school spirit, present and future, will make all these possible QWWZZLQJ? ship, Department, Orderliness and Dignity all add up to that intangible Esprit de Corps.
