A large demand made by the boat building and marine engme interests of the Niagara Frontier led to the forma tion of the Boat Building course at Burgard in 1949 The first class was formed in September of 1950 under the direction of Mr Lines When equipment and materials were increased the shop was moved to 145 and the course was well on its way to add much to the industrial welfare of the Frontier. The course consists of an extensive four year program containing practical work in small boat construction, repair, painting and maintenance as well as engine repair and servicing. The Niagara Frontier with its tremendous waterfront ac- tivity has opened a brilliant new field for vocational train- ing and again Burgard has stepped in to fill the gap in the ever increasing task of preparing people to help themselves as well as their community. 12
