4EuI1's jfinger Zlluucbeh Ziaim anh be Slept Qihttlarh TE 0151121511 18801951 Edward T Welsh 71 of 800 Glenwood Ave retrred drrector of the Board of Educatron s Employment Certrficatrng Bureau and former Burgard Voca tronal Hrgh School gurdance counselor and prrntrng rnstructor dred of a heart attack December 26 1901 Rescue Squad 4 of the Frre Department answered a call at 1 17 o clock but pronounced hrm dead on arrrval Mr Welsh was born Jan 22 1880 rn Lewrston and moved to Nragara Falls wrth hrs famrly He attended the Frith Street School there He was grad uated rn 1909 from old Buffalo Normal School now Buffalo State reachers Colle e and began teachrng rn 1910 after a career that rncluded work rn the messenger seryrce of the New York Central Rarlroad and as a prrnter for many Buffalo companres mcludrng The Buffalo Evenrng News He became an rnstructor rn prrntrng rn the old Broadway Vocatronal School rn Sept 1910 and rn 1918 was appornted assrstant to the prrncrpal of the Elm Vocatronal School now the Burgard Vocatronal School Four years later he was appornted dn ector of the Employment Certrficatrng Bureau and rn 1932 Jorned the faculty at Bur gard as gurdance counselor a posrtron he held untrl hrs retrrement rn June 1950 He was a member of Local 9 Internatronal Typographrcal Unron for more than 50 years and a member of the Buffalo Club of Prrntrng House Craftsmen for more than 25 years He also was a member of the Buffalo Schoolmasters Assocratron the Buffalo Teachers Federatron the New York State Voca tronal Assocratron the Amerrcan Vocat1onal Assocratron and the Natronal Vocatronal Gurdance Assocratron He was past drrector of the Grand Vrew Bay Communrty Assocratron Angola jllilelhm 3 Smith 1884 1951 On May 10 1951 Melvrn J Smrth passed avr ay saddenrng all those wrth whom he worked He had been a teacher at Bur ard Vocatronal Hrgh School for 28 years Mr Smrth yy as born on Noy ember 7 1884 He yy as graduated from hrgh chool rn Conneaut Ohro Later he attended St eTeachers College rn Buffalo or 2 years He worked for 120 hours of credrt at the Unrversrty of Buffalo had spent many years rn rndustly before takrng up teachrng as a career worked seven years at dye makrng and two years at watch rnakrng I the electrrcal field he spent a total of nrne years 2 years wrth General Electrrc rn the Laboratory and 4 years as a specralrst rn certarn parts of the rndustry at Nragara Falls He w s brought to old Elm Vocatronal School to teach battery work rn 1923 Later he taught mathematrcs at the Burgard Annex and strll later he returned to the mam burldrng to teach battery work agarn Wrth Mr Decker he was rnterested rn takrng charge of the Stamp Club from 1925 to 1941 He was an avrd traveler and photographer He made many trrps to Mexrco where hrs hobby of photography recerved full scope He planned to retrre and to go to Mexrco to lrve Burgard feels grreved beyond measure and mourns the loss of a loyal corrscrentrous worker one who quretly went about day after day performrng hrs dutres rn a prarsevnorthy manner The boys who were students at hrs shop remember vt 1th prrde and pleasure the work they have performed under hrs gurdan e Tre faculty remembers wrth a keen sense of loss Mr Smrth s devotron to hrs teachrng and hrs unassumrng manner Q 0 , 1 . , ., . , v . . a , . , , . . . , , .
