Senior History CLASS FLOWER f GARDENIA CLASS COLORS -- BED AND WHITE In the spring of l9b9 thirteen graduates of the Bureau Township Grade School re- ceived their eighth grade diplomas. They were Lester Meisenheimer, Jack Andersen, Donald Johnson, Damian Girten, Barbara Johnson, Shirley Lange, Greg Saxum, Shirley Hubbard, Phillip Naffzlger, Elizabeth Sims, Luclle Brigham, Roger Swanson, and Jerry Klingenberg. Except for Barbara Johnson, who went to Manllus, all returned as fresh- men in the fall of 1949. Donald Steele joined us from Walnut. During the first year we elected Greg Saxum, president, Lester Meisenhelmer, vice president, Jack Andersen, secretary, Donald Johnson, treasurer, and Lucile Brigham, reporter. Miss Naomi Ra- venscroft was the class sponsor. As a money making project the members popped corn and sold it at the games. Soon after this project was started, the school purchased a popcorn machine. The use of this machine was shared with the Juniors. The group was given the traditional initiation by the Sophomores. For three days festivities were carried on, cllmaxed with a party., The girls in home economics class celebrated their birthdays by making birthday cakes. On two occasions the boys were invited to refreshments prepared by the girls. An all school Halloween party was sponsored by the class. Several of the class members took part in the one-act play contest. The play tied for third place in the county contest. During the Sophomore year, Greg Saxum enrolled at princeton, and Roger Munson Joined the class. Damian Girten left at the first of the year. Later we were sorry to hear of his death. Elizabeth Sims moved to Tiskilwa in December. The class offl- cers for the year were, Lester Melsenhelmer, president, Donald Johnson, vice presl- dent, Shirley Lange, secretary, Lucile Brigham, treasurer, and Phillip Naffziger, re- porter. Miss Ravenscroft was again the class sponsor. As Scphomores, the members were privileged to initiate the freshmen, have charge of the commencement flowers, and have the candy-selling concession for the school year. At the start of the Junior year Phillip Naffziger enrolled at Princeton. Class officers were elected as follows: Lester Meisenheimer, presidentg' Lucile Brigham, vice president, Donald Johnson, secretary, Jack Andersen, treasurer, and Shirley Lange, reporter. Mr. Gillingham was the class sponsor. As Juniors the members spon- sored the Junior-Senior banquet which was held at the Hotel Kewanee. The class play, 'A Pair of Country Kids' was presented and enjoyed by all. Donald Steele had charge of the stage production. ' Now, it is our Senior year. There have been no changes in membership and Mr. Gillingham is again our class sponsor. Two new faculty members, Mrs. Iona Burgess, and Miss Donna Skinner, Joined the high school staff. The class officers elected are Donald Steele, president, Jack Andersen, vice president, Lucile Brigham, secretary, Shirley Lange, treasurer, and Roger Munson, reporter. Naturally, the main activity of this year was the production of the 'Beuro'. We were given an early opportunity to organize the staff and contract for the book. Ads were sold and much copy of the book was mailed for printing before December 15, 1952. As this goes to press we have had our Chicago trip and are looking forward to our class play, Senior Banquet, and graduation. fw na. s Q Kb! kg Su 6
