Mr. Thompson sent me to the projection room to set up the machine and see what the film was about. As the title was, 'A Crystal Gazer Foretells the Future of the Class of '49', I knew that it would undoubtedly be interesting. So I switched off the lights and started the machine. The first picture to come on the screen was that of Helen Erickson in a large building in New York. Seems Helen is a very successful sec- retary for a large advertising finm just as competent as ever, with just as ready and enticing a smile as when I knew her at Bureau. But where is Gary, I wondered, remembering him as the romantic interest in her life during high school days It was with no small degree of surprise, therefore, that I watched the scene change to the turbulent waters of the broad Pacific and there on a large destroyer was Vaughn helping to keep the brass rails clean Yes, Gary had joined the Navy Then the scene changed to the southern part of Canada where in a mod ern workshop I saw Wendell Klingenberg who has become most successful in his taxidermist business and is now fabulously wealthy Seems Wendell now rivals the fa ous Frank Buck, for he makes frequent trips into the African jungles and 'brings 'em back alive', then studies them and reproduces 'true to life' postures of the animals after their deaths Then the picture changed back to the first scene again with Helen working as secretary and her boss can you guess who' None other than our famous basket ball player, Junior Nicht, now president of 'The Acme Advertising Company of New Yorkn, imminently successful and immensely wealthy Junior has taken on weight, must tip the scales at 210 There's no change in height however, still a good seven foot The next scene was still laid in New York and there in the famous dan cing school of Yolande a d Volez, I saw two of their best instructors in action, our two Marllyns Lang and Heuer now having reached the very pinnacle of fame I can't describe the grace and rhythm with which the two wound their way through the intricacies of the latest ball room dance steps Literally dancing on a moonbeam The next scene was laid in a small college in Maine and loitering a long a tree shaded walk, I recognized none other than Clark Heuer and you guessed it Caryl Hoover Caryl is majoring in Home Economics an Clark in Physical Education, but the romance which began years ago in old Bureau High, seems never to have dimmed in lustre and the oy of companionship was just as evident as in the days gone by e last picture was of myself and on the same destroyer as Gary, I was giving orders to my seamen Before me lay the blue Pacific, a far cry from Bureau Township with its level stretches of highly productive farm lands and its peace and quiet I turned off the machine and in the stillness and the dark of the pro jection room sat for awhile drea ing Just what do the years really hold, I wondered Does the crystal gazer know? What will be the paths we, as graduates, will treadv Only time will tell But, my wish is that the years that lie ahead be happy ones and all the paths be paths of peace VIA!! XIAW VMI' JIM!
