Through his educational aims, he has built up the dignity and respect of the high school. Cosordinating the students, teachers, parents, and the school plant into a happy en- vironment for learning is his difficult and busy job. Recog- nized as one of the outstanding high school principals of Southern California, Mr. Ogborn is also characterized as a leader who commands the devotion, admiration, and re- spect of his friends and associates. Assisting Mr. Ogborn are the two Vice Principals, Mrs. Katherine Dwire and Mr. Edward Bedigan. interests, acti- vities, and problems of girls are the chief concern of Mrs, Dwire, and her office is always open for counseling. She spends many extra hours as advisor of Z Club, Girls' League, and the Scholarship Society. The boys' Vice Principal, Mr. Edward Bedigan, is equally interested in the boys' activities and problems. The inter- mediate and advanced dance classes spent many long hours rehearsing for this production. Interme- diate students practiced afternoors, and the advanced class rehearsed during evenings. Divided into two parts, the dance performance told the stories of birthstones and horoscopes. In the first half, twelve dances were presented depicting the significance of each month's birthstone. Records for the dances were chosen by each dancer to best fit her interpretation of the stone, Costumes were close- ly related to the coloring of each stone. Solos, duets, and trios were presented by Sherrie Donatt, Pat Aylward, Louanne Gate-wood, Bev Sav- age, Joan DeCola, Carol Frethy, Penny Thompson, and Laurie Jones. The script was written and clever- ly narrated by Don James. One record, entitled Your Horoscope in Music , provided the background for the twelve dances in the second half of the program. The movements of the dances were planned and directed by student choreographers. The dances depicted personality traits of those born under each particular sign of the zodiac. Costumes, designed by Betty Lambert, were made by the students. The color and style of each costume closely resembled the figure of the sign represented, Mr. Marvin Glick and the stage crew were re- sponsible for sets and lighting. Miss Deanne Wolfson advised and directed the dance classes in producing the performance. and Ethel Everett. Each semester, otticers are elected to serve the group, which functions smoothly as an organization. Through hard work, long rehearsal hours, mutual co- operation and talent, the A Cappella makes the operetta a fine production every year. The members, all of whom have had at least one year's previous instrumental training, enjoy group music as they learn the importance of each contributing all his talent, initiative, and co-operation to the success ot the group. Long practice hours, individually and as a group, have made the orchestra a credit and a fine represen- tative ot BHS. The dance band, newly organized at BHS, is also under the direction of Mr. Duarte. The group met as an extra-curricular activity every Wednesday evening from seven to nine. Under the leadership of Miss Wolfson, their routines were new and unique. Their costumes were sleeveless white middy blouses, with sailor collars trimmed in blue, Navy pleated skirts and sailor hats completed the outfits. Replacing the traditional pam-poms were the new blue and white signal flags. Laurie Janes was elected team leader this year and was the representative on Executive Council and Rally Committee. Mickey Lay was chairman of the committee which prepared field formations for the games and rallies, During basketball season the top thirty girls made up a smaller drill team which marched during half-time in the gym. Their routines were more com- plicated and detailed. Burbank's hard working cheer leaders, who led the rooting section in traditional style and with new yells were Tam Jones, Diane Davis, Ron Levine, and Sarah Gayman, They encouraged spirit whether the teams won, lost or tied.
