Homecoming Theme ‘‘Reach for the Stars’”’ The crowning of Queen Sue Lashuay highlighted this year's homecoming game as the Lancers were de- feated 32 to 0 by Chesaning. Sue's court consisted of senior Denise McIntosh, junior Cindy Batdorf, soph- omore Debbie Dryer, and freshman Pam Twining. Escorts were Don Terwillegar, Mike Olausson, Brent Eastman, Karl Bontrager, and Wes Batdorf. The dance Saturday night sponsored by the Student Council featured music by the Flood . MEMORIES Campaign Assembly A campaign assembly and mock presiden- tial election were staged by members of Mr. Wagner's Government classes during the height of the election year. Represent- ing Richard Nixon was Ken Lashuay, while Paul Sasse (left) sided with George McGov- ern. Speeches were delivered, posters and signs were made, a nd newsmen, Dan Myers and Rick Tepatti recorded the event. B.C. Entertainment The 1972-73 school year was filled with assemblies during the school day and dances at night. The assemblies included everything from a magician (above, left), to sophomore skits (left and below). Here Pistol Pete (Pat Secrist) describes the joys of fishing to Percy Berfel (Ann Blumer). This year's HiLites program, under the direction of the National Honor Society, was quite successful. Capturing the first prize of $25 for the best skit was the Co- op Club with their skit, The Longest Day. '' The Junior Class took second place with Divorce Game , while the 3rd place winner was the Freshman class with The Commercial Controversy. Winning 1st place in the category of Indi- viduals was Pat Heath with a vocal selec - tion entitled Medley of Love. Injuries and inexperience kept the Lancer Harriers from copping the conference championship, With just three seniors on the squad, the Lanc- ers finished 4-4. Running against such schools as Class 'A’ Midland and Bridgeport and Class 'C' power- house Sheperd, the Lancers faced one of the toughest schedules in Lancer history. Paul Sasse was voted most valuable runner by his teammates. Sasse, along with sophomore ‘Tom Leddy, led the Harriers in a major- ity of the races. Mark Howison shows the form that makes him promising for next year. He was the team leader in rebounds. Rick Tepatti was a real good hustler and a good man to have around. 47 Kurt Twining shoots as Dave Maschino and Mark Howison get set for the rebound. Varsity 6-13 overall The varsity finished up with a 6-13 record. Although the record didn't show it, the team seemed to improve and gain needed confidence. The Lancers finished 5th in the conference and came up short ina close district game against Chesaning. The Lancers never lacked hustle or the spirit generated by all the student body. And, as Kurt Twining said, ‘We really appreciated that. J. Varsity Basketball gains experience The J. V. Basketball team finished with only a 3-15 record but many ball-players gained experience and game confidence. B. C.H.S. is looking forward to them next year on the varsity. Valedictorian Vickie Hagley was named valedictorian of the class of 1973 with a 3.97 grade point average. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Hagley. Vickie has been very active in school activ- ities at B.C. including National Honor Society, GAA, bowling intramurals, Latin Club, Co-op Club, Debate, Forensics, skiing, Science Quiz, Home Ec Club and Pep Club. As a junior she was pre- sented the chemistry award and attended the High School Honors Science Program at MSU. Asa senior she was named a National Merit Finalist. Vickie was em- ployed as a co-op at the Dow Corning Corporation, Salutatorian Ann Blumer was named saluta- torian with a grade point average of 3.80. Ann is the daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Philip Blumer. She, too, has been involved in many student activities during her high school years. Included in these activities are National Honor So- ciety, Co-op Club, Latin Club, Student Council, GAA, and year- book staff. She was a class officer for two years. Ann attended the High School Honors Science Pro- gram at MSU as a junior and re- ceived the senior math award as a senior, She was a co-op in a re- search lab at Dow Corning. Honor students DAR Good Citizen Mary Juengel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Juengel, was named the D.A.R. Good Citizen this year. Selection for this award in based upon leadership, ser- vice, dependability, and patriotism. Throughout her high school years, Mary was active in band, Pep Club, bowling in- trainurais, GIA. Ay oki Club,, and Na- tional Honor Society. She also graduated in the top 10% of her class. Midland Junior Miss Rhonda Kobel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kobel, was selected as the Midland Junior Miss this year. Rhonda then ad- vanced to the regional Jr. Miss competi- tion at Fenton and to the state competi- tion at Pontiac. Rhonda's talent for the competition included a film of herself and her horse. She was also a class officer as a junior. ey, Presidential Classroom Ken Lashuay was selected to attend the Presidential Classroom for Young Americans in Washington D,C, Se- lection for this award is based on scholarship, involvement in school activities, co-operation, self-disci- pline, and sincerity. The trip is sponsored by N.H.S. Some of the highlights of Ken's trip were visiting the Fairfax Highwat Research Station, the Pentagon, and the Ford Theater. He also met Sena- tor and Mrs. Geo. McGovern, Rep. Bella Abzug, and Sen. Ted Kennedy. John Phillip Sousa Award The John Phillip Sousa Award goes to the top senior musician in the varsity band. This year this award went to Ronda Haggit, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Haggit. Ronda was Ist chair clarinetist and played in solo-ensemble competition at the state level for 4 years. As a senior, Ronda was the class secretary, a member of National Honor Society, and a co-op at Dow. Be Baccalaureate Music for the baccalaureate program, held June 3, 1973, was provided by members of the senior class. Graduation Commencement exercises for the Class of 1973 were held in the high school gymnasium June 7, 1973. This year's class established a new tradi- tion by having the valedictor- ian, Vickie Hagley, and the salutatorian, Ann Blumer, speak to their fellow class- mates and guests.
