Helen and Jim both earned firsts in regional compe- tition and advanced to the State Forensic Finals in Ann Arbor where Jim was eliminated in the semi-final round and Helen in the preliminaries. Debaters Finish Seventh in State Competition The Lancer debaters compiled an 86-34 record for the year and finished seventh in State Class B competition. It marked the fifth time in nine years that they were in semi-finals. The team placed first in the North Central Debate League; sec- ond in the Central Michigan League; second in the Cross-X League (J. V. division); and third in the Cross-X Varsity League. They were first in the Lower Thumb Tourney, and took both second and third in the Big Rapids Tourney. BELOW: Varsity Debaters (L.
