With Stratford High School, Tech is the newest member of the Southern Division of the Con- necticut High School Swimming Association. The team, guided by the able coaching of Mr. Douglas Spaulding, had a successful first season of eight dual meets, although the record of wins and defeats does not look very impressive. The first season is a period in which the boys gain in knowledge, skill, and experience, Know- ing this, the boys did not become discouraged in losing all eight meets. Equipped with the traditional school colors of orange swim suits and black trunks for the divers, the Tech team went into action against Hamden High School at the New Haven Boys' Club. The heavily favored Hamden squad lived up to ex- pectations and emerged victorious in a 53-14 verdict, Our tankmen nearly tasted victory against Wil- bur Cross High, rolling up 31 points to their 36, but they found themselves outclassed by their other rivals. Last year's division champions, Nau- gatuck High, took Tech's measure 43-24. Green- wich High treated their hosts to a 46-21 defeat. At this point in the season, the virus took over and the team was crippled for the East Haven meet which we dropped 50-17. The Harding Presidents, who had only one win in the confer- ence, looked to be the one to beat, but luck was not with us and Harding won 41-26. In the meet against Stratford, Tech held the lead throughout the first half, but lost ground in the second, and finished the afternoon with one second place in the freestyle relay. The final meet of the season against Hillhouse saw Bob Buskey in the hospital recovering from an operation, Steve Boros and Bill Graham re- tired from the team. Hillhouse prepared for the state meet at the University of Connecticut by defeating Tech 49-16. Coach Spaulding give a few pointers to Al Spodnick, Steve Boros, and Bob Buckey,
