CLASS PRGPHECY Arrangmg a format for an urban newspaper IS by no means an easy yob As Edltor I am responslble for the publtcanon of a presentable paper that people wlll rely on for an accurate accounting of current events It IS xndeed a tremendous task to cover all the news and at the same tune meet deadlmes However on thls partrcular day une 25 1975 my task was easy As I undertook the lob of makmg up the varxous pages many names that were rn the news and ln the varlous ads seemed unusually fa mxllar to me For lnstance the headllnes for the day were Lzba Leadmg In Senatornal Race And further down the page at a news conference Ronald Racler and Rzcbard Ruellz Ixbas pol1t1cal lleutenants predlcted a 100000 vote landshde For another lead artlcle I used the progress of the houslng program that the clty was buxldmg The Mezzrk and Sancbrr engmeerlng firm had completed plans for what promlsed to be the largest and most modern project IU the clty The Panatlzerz Construc non Company was ready to begln the actual work At the bottom of the page I placed an arncle concernmg those people arrxvlng rn the States from Europe And even rn thus arncle I recogmzed several names mcludnng Aalelzna Romano who was return mg after a vlsxt to Italy and Gerry Dada the noted although retlred magazlne publlsher who was also on the same plane On the late flnght 1nto the States were Glorza Frztz and Vzrtor Kalz arrxvlng after com pletmg a plcture abroad for the Oscar wxnmng pro ducer Ray Maxzrnenko Maxnmenko productnons had prevrously flnlshed a crmpalgn film for Carl Llba Also aboard the late flnght was G1orge Szezenr re turmng home on leave from the Navy To complete the leadxng news artlcles on the front page I used one that would be of mterest to many of our subscrxbers It concerned the Blllldlflll, Trades Unton Hght wlth the Pzzarnzb A and B Cflrlamr and Bergerj and the Petcrron contracnng compannes Representmg the unlon against a sux hour day were Rzcbarcl Sanzonczb and Donalrl Germazn On page two I gave a lot of space to plug a drxve for funds for overseas mlssnonarxes bemg conducted by a man I had once known very well Clzff Cable Parncrpatmg ln an exhlbttxon promotmg the drlve were Bob Plazle and Pele Patror let pllots Bob len nzngf auto racer and Ronnze Scbzelznger an experx enced motorcycle daredevrl The exh1b1t1on by com cldence was to take place ln the Bnrbey Memorxal Stadium whnch I remembered as a desrgn of Bill Allen and joe Soinzb An advertlsement that was to go on thus page re mlnded me of my school days and the txme I went to school wxth a hole nn the seat of my pants Roberta Gazzronr exclusrve dress shop was sponsormg therr annual fashlon show featurrng clothes desrgned by Fran Placbzno Margaret Naernberg and Carol Mc Don ell Anna Sloeppel was to represent the Ann Hurko model agency Each of these glrls I recall had wrtnessed what at the t1me I consldered the rum of my soclal l1fe Another artlcle on thls page that contalned fam1l1ar names was the one about Bob Pbzlzpr cross country jaunt rn a car usnng a new type of gas orlgmated by Paul Canlkznr As I started the make up of the next page a prcture I had capnoned New Chess Champ made me look twtce It was Bobby Pazzlzn and as I read the follow up I learned he was a retired mason Several names that caught my eye rn an announce ment I was placxng on the page made me read the complete xtem A modern beauty parlor owned by Sbzrley Alleznton Barbara Gawzero and Rore DeFe lne rs ready for openmg day Best wxshes are ex tended by those who have worked on the store They are Bzll Crogz and Ed Czapla electrxcrans Marwn Gelb and George Klernbara plumbrng assoc1ates jobn Maygar and Angelo Turrznz masons and Dick Derrocberr and Dzck DelVeccbzo carpenters The Srrzbano Prrnt Plant handled all prlnnng work Scanmng through the copy for an arncle wxth whlch to complete the page I found one whxch told of Walt Crcnzzn r completxon of hrs round the world crulse m a specxal yacht deslgned by Dong Kent For the socxety page headllnes I used a party I once knew and had now made a name for hmmself rn the automotlve held Laurent Harney Among those attendnng the affalr were lean Bennett and Rofe 71nzpanell1 popular beauttclans Vincent Knrec and Rzfbarcl Nzrbzo well known men rn the prmtrng buslness and Bob Znzarzlab white collar worker Musnc for thls soclety flmg was provlded by Mzke Zzgmonl and Bob Piccazllo In checkmg the Socnety nn Br1ef column I learned that two glrls who had been comedrans when I knew them had been grven a bon voyage party Olga Ramos and Carol Trano were golng to the Far East The space allotted for advertrsmg on th1s page gave me an opportunrty to use copy that also con tamed names of people I once knew There was an ad concermng a local beauty bar owned by Vzwan Hay cock and Dorn Mnfrbead What an excellent combnn anon they were for thus busxness I thought Another ad advertlsed the prlnttng abllxtles of Homer Frybar ger and Al
