while the team with a large number from our class licked the experience and finesse of their rivals they more than made it up in determination and spirit Al though we had to wait until the final game to score our first touchdown Dick DelVecch1o had the honor We gave every team as much of a fight as they gave us As the football season closed the basketball tryouts started With all the high scorers of the previous season lost to graduation and the new schedule of Class A ball things looked mighty dim And things were dim Only the alumni fell before us but again the team showed all the spirit that the football team had shown before The squad garned the reputation of being one of the hardest fighting teams rn the league and the Probus Club of Bridgeport recognized that spirit by designating them the most sporting team in the district at one of their banquets The junior Year was the year that our class came of age and started to gain positions in the student govern ing bodies The Student Council of that year saw several of us as members Chris I-Iaslob was elected to the post of unior Representative to the Student Council Con gress It was also this year that we gained membershrp in the National and Connecticut Associations of Student Councils On the class level electrons were held and Carl L1ba was elected to the post of president an ofhce he held in the Senior Year And while we came of age we helped the school come of age Members of our class held several of the more responsible positions in the city government on Youth Day sponsored by the Elks Those positions in cluded the ofhce of Mayor held by Carl L1ba Carl also represented the school in Washington D C at the 42nd Annual Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States Yes that was quite a busy year for us as we learned the tricks of running the school from the Seniors We started class dues ran dances helped the Seniors to pay for their yearbooks held an assembly and finally closed the year with an outmg at Lake Quassapaug SENIOR YEAR As High and Mighty Seniors the opening day was old stuff the amount of freshmen seemed quite normal and although most of our friends graduated and some instructors left including Messers Ingerson Robinson Waugh and Mrs Piascik we were very much at home And home rt was for at the end of this our Semor Year we had logged 5600 hours at Tech quite a sizable Sllfn It was now that the lessons that we learned from the earlier Seniors came in handy as we assumed control of the school s student government Carl Liba became presr dent of the Student Council Bob Zmarzlak took over as AA president and Bob Penkoff and Walt Cremms became Co Captains of the football team This year the team under the capable superviston of the three coaches Dobelstein Toal and Sltnko and with some experience under their belts made up for the prior season s failings We had if you remember twice as much spirit and drive and we made sure that every team we played felt rt We won two games scored in all but one and made an exceptionally good showing for a two year old team The basketball squad also improved on its season They had three wms out of a tough twenty game sched ule The team suffered from a lack of height but under their new coach Mr Prascik they forgot that handicap md g ive every opponent a battle Our Semor Year saw several more advances toward building school prestige Among these were the forma tion of a chapter of the National Honor Society with Mr Erchner as advrsor formed under the dtrection of the Student Council At the first rnduction 30 members of our class became charter members of the chapter Excelsior During the year several members of our class won prizes includrng watches rn a contest sponsored by a local newspaper creating more favorable publicity As the year progressed several dances were held cluding a Semi Formal under the directron of Mike Zigmont and Bob Pxccuillo co chairman for the event We held our class play in November with Ray Maxi menko directing and Carl Liba producing It was called The Toast of Tech Ray was if you remember top salesman rn both magazine drives the Student Council promoted to raise money for school activities and sports We also learned how much time effort and money was needed to produce a yearbook such as this It was a lot of work and without Mr Fisher to drrect and correlate this work tt might not have been possible The Year book really drained our treasury as Ray Maxrmenko our Business Manager can attest but we recovered rn fine style and were soon back in a solvent condition Then all of a sudden rt was the Home Stretch and we all worked to graduate and some of us worked more to further our education in colleges and unrversrtres Then the final events of our Semor Year began to shape up and loom before us In those final weeks we really enjoyed ourselves at the outmg and banquet Remember the instructors that were along w1th us? They seemed to enjoy it more than we did Then came the prom where most of us saw the sunrise and as the night floated away so did our money and in its place the memories of a time very well enjoyed Finally the last days of school at Tech were with us and as we got the autographs of our friends and rnstruc tors that we had missed at the banquet most of us began to feel happy and blue at the same time It was the day of graduation when we realized that we had become what we were becoming and that night while we watched the ceremonies received our diplomas and the iwards that were due us and while there was nary a dry eye in the vicinity we realized quite triumphantly that this was the beginning and not the end ' 1 ' 9 V ' 7 1 4 , , , 4 , 4 4 .
